NFL Draft results 2014: Eric Ebron headed to Lions at No. 10

UNC's Eric Ebron is the first tight end selected in the NFL Draft, going No. 10 overall to the Lions.

The Detroit Lions have selected North Carolina tight end Eric Ebron with the No. 10 overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft. Ebron was SB Nation's top-ranked tight end and No. 8 overall player on the top 200 big board. He was evaluated higher than other big-name tight ends including Jace Amaro, Austin Seferian-Jenkins and Troy Niklas.

Ebron was No. 2 in the nation among tight ends, behind Amaro, with 62 receptions for 973 yards last season at UNC. For his efforts, he was named a second-team AP All-American and a first-team All-ACC performer. He was also named a finalist for the John Mackey Award given every year to a player deemed college football's best tight end, which went to Seferian-Jenkins this past season.

Combine results

Height: 6'4

Weight: 250 pounds

40-yard dash: 4.60 seconds

Bench Press: 24 reps of 225 pounds

Vertical jump: 32 inches

Broad jump: 120 inches

Ebron's 40 time ranked second among tight ends, and his broad jump ranked third, making him one of the speediest and most explosive players at his position in this year's draft class. He fits the mold of the versatile, uber-athletic receiving tight end so en vogue in the NFL these days, and will be expected to become an immediate contributor for his new team.
