2014 NFL mock draft: Todd McShay says Johnny Manziel to Dallas

ESPN's draft guru breaks down what he expects in the first round of the NFL Draft.

SB Nation 2014 NFL Draft

With the 2014 NFL Draft getting underway on Thursday night at Radio City Music Hall in New York City, the end of the mock draft parade is upon us. Still, we have one more to get to, and it comes from ESPN's Todd McShay (insider subscription required).

The Houston Texans are on the clock first, and not surprisingly take South Carolina defensive end Jadeveon Clowney in McShay's world. Clowney is one of the most highly touted prospects to enter the draft in the last decade, and general manager Rick Smith appears to be intrigued by the idea of pairing him with J.J. Watt.

At picks four and five, wide receivers Sammy Watkins of Clemson and Mike Evans of Texas A&M go off the board to the Cleveland Browns and Oakland Raiders, respectively. Watkins would give the Browns a potentially incredible one-two punch with Josh Gordon, while the Raiders add a big target for Matt Schaub.

As for the quarterbacks, the first taken in McShay's mock is Blake Bortles at No. 11 to the Tennessee Titans. The team recently declined the fifth-year option on quarterback Jake Locker's deal, making him a free agent after this season. Bortles could step in and take the reigns under first-year head coach Ken Whisenhunt.

At the 16th spot, McShay drops the absolutely devastating hammer that would make ESPN explode. McShay believes Johnny Manziel will be taken by the Dallas Cowboys because owner Jerry Jones will literally run to the podium in New York from Dallas if he is available. It makes so much sense and none at all at the same time.

Ten spots later, with the Browns on the clock thanks to the Indianapolis Colts donating their pick for Trent Richardson, Cleveland selects Teddy Bridgewater out of Louisville. After taking Watkins with their first pick of the night, Browns fans would likely be thrilled at the potential upgrades to the offense.

In what would be a major surprise and steal, the San Francisco 49ers select Odell Beckham Jr. out of LSU with the 30th overall pick. Beckham is expected by most to go in the first 20 picks and certainly not fall past the Kansas City Chiefs at No. 23. However, McShay sees a drop for the former SEC standout.
