An interception by Harrison Smith at the goal line with 36 seconds remaining made all the difference for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish as they captured a thrilling 20-16 win over the USC Trojans.
USC's defense forced four Notre Dame turnovers, but a nonexistent running game and ineffective play by quarterback Mitch Mustain couldn't take full advantage, as Notre Dame beat the Trojans, 20-16, in a sloppy game at the Coliseum.
After missing a field goal that would have put them up five points in the fourth quarter, USC had no answer for Jake Locker, and the Washington Huskies beat the Trojans 32-31 on a last-second field goal.
