We all know the good news headed into week five is that everyone's favorite Eagles, Donovan McNabb and Brian Westbrook, are back and ready to kick some tail. Returning with them against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will be several familiar faces: FS Quintin Demps, CB Ellis Hobbs, OG Max Jean-Gilles, RT Winston Justice, and CB Dimitri Patterson. WR Kevin Curtis is listed as questionable while battling a knee injury, meaning that rookie Jeremy Maclin could get another chance to earn a permanent starting position opposite DeSean Jackson. LG Todd Herremans is still out with his foot injury, but is recovering could make it back on the field as soon as next week. All in all, the bye week gave the Eagles a great chance to get the majority of their team healthy and back on the field.

On the other side of the ball, the Bucs look a little worse for wear. After going 0-4 in their first four games, Tampa Bay is limping into week five without their starting center, Jeff Faine, without whom the offensive line has fallen into disarray. This should provide several nice opportunities for Trent Cole and company to put some serious pressure on young QB Josh Johnson. Rookie DE/DT Kyle Moore is also out with a knee injury, and backups RB Earnest Graham and CB Torrie Cox are listed as questionable, depriving the Bucs of some of their depth. Most importantly, though, are the potential losses of starting DE Gaines Adams and last year's leading receiver Antonio Bryant, who are both listed as questionable. In his three games played this season, Bryant has caught 7 catches for 79 yards and a touchdown - the only touchdown thrown by Josh Johnson this season. Adams has started all four games and recorded 10 tackles and a single sack.

When did it become a symbol of what's wrong with these kids today? When I was growing up, athletes rolled out all sorts of unique, self-promoting touchdown celebrations (Desmond Howard and Ickey Woods come to mind), and no one ever called the fun police to have them carted off. But poor DeSean Jackson already has been tried and convicted by those who automatically bristle whenever a player dares to be different.

Of all the injuries so far this preseason, this one has to be the weirdest.

Head coach Andy Reid announced Wednesday that starting left guard Todd Herremans could miss the entire preseason with a "stress reaction" in his left foot, above the arch. Head athletic trainer Rick Burkholder said through a spokesman that a "stress reaction" is "a precursor to a stress fracture."

This is unfortunate news for Herremans, but it creates a big opportunity for a guy like Max Jean-Gilles. Plus, it should mean that the likes of Mike McGlynn and Nick Cole get even more playing time in preseason.

Not sure what else to say other than... at least it's not a torn ACL!

But it really isn’t. It just shows the determination and drive that we all have to succeed and win and to always be on the top of our games. These things happen in the heat of the battle, and with the hard workouts and the summer heat, players get testy with each other and brawls are bound to happen during training camp. "

When the Eagles' veteran kicker blasted the ball straight through the uprights, he got one of the loudest ovations of training camp from the crowd of more than13,000.

Let’s keep in mind that the Eagles season opener against Carolina is still more than a month away. There’s plenty of time for the o-line to get healthy, and plenty of opportunity for young players to step up and fill the void left by the losses of Bradley and Ingram – and for the Birds to go out and bring in outside help (especially at the tight end position).

Philadelphia Eagles Training Camp Preview - Interior offensive line

This is the next installment in our series of 12 positions in 12 days previewing the upcoming Eagles training camp. Rookie and selected vets report to Lehigh July 26th and each day leading up to that date we will bring you a preview of a different position battle.

The big uglies. The trenches... That's where we look to today as we take on the interior of the Eagles offensive line. Center and Guard.

The Bodies

Stacy Andrews, Nick Cole, Mike Gibson, Paul Fanaika, Todd Herremans, Jamaal Jackson, Max Jean-Gilles, Mike McGlynn, Fenuki Tupou, Chris Patrick. (Tupou & Patrick are listed as OTs, but they'll probably compete at several spots on the line)

Presumed starters

Stacy Andrews(RG), Jamaal Jackson(C), Todd Herremans(LG). Assuming all are healthy, it's pretty unlikely that any of these three won't be starting this year. The only real question is the knee of Stacy Andrews. He tore his ACL last year and had surgery in early January. Whether he'll be 100% ready to go by the time the season starts is not sure.

New additions

Stacy Andrews signed as a free agent from the Cincinnati Bengals.

Paul Fanaika was drafted in the 7th round & Fenuki Tupou was drafted in the 5th this year.

What to watch for

There's a lot of capable players and new draft picks fighting for a precious few spots on the interior of the Eagles offensive line. Nick Cole, being able to play C or G is probably a shoe in to make it... Max Jean-Gilles is the most senior member of the group fighting for backup jobs. However, Gilles broke his fibula last year in the Thanksgiving game against Arizona and it will be interesting to see how he's recovered and whether the injury will bother him in camp.

A guy I'll have my eye on is second year man Mike McGlynn. McGlynn was a 4th round pick last year and his nasty demeanor on the field drew comparisons to Jon Runyan. Having spent a year in the system with offensive line coach Juan Castillo, I'm excited to see how how McGlynn's development is progressing.

Another second year man to keep an eye on is Mike Gibson, who was spending time learning both guard and center last year. Jamaal Jackson and Nick Cole have generally been the only centers in camp in recent years and it will nice to see some more competition in there.

All that said, the #1 storyline is going to be the health of Stacy Andrews. If he's not going ot be ready to start the season, the likes of Jean-Gilles & McGlynn will be fighting for starting jobs... not backup positions.

Previous position previews

Quarterback
