Over the last week or so, the Kansas City Chiefs have parted ways with 27 players. Three of those players were put on IR/PUP list, ending their seasons (in the case of the PUP list, delaying their season until Week 6).

Where will they all end up?

If history is any indication, a good portion of these players will not be playing on an NFL team ever again. Yes, some will make other NFL rosters and still more will be signed to other team's practice squads.

But, for the most part, none of these players are likely to make a splash on another team, save for a guy like Bernard Pollard who still has quite a bit of gas left in the tank.

Check out last year's cuts at this time. Two, maybe three of those guys are in the NFL right now.

After the jump, we've got a table where we will track what happens to each of the Chiefs' cuts. This should be interesting to see where they go, if anywhere.

Remember, some of these guys will end up on the Chiefs practice squad, which they can designate players for as early as today. We'll have a practice squad post coming up soon too.

If you guys hear about any movement by these players, please let us know in the comments and we will get the table updated.

The Kansas City Chiefs released earlier today the unofficial depth chart for this weekend's game against the Seattle Seahawks.

(Edit: Funny story, actually. For a short time this morning, the Chiefs accidentally put out the press release from a Chiefs/Seahawks game in 2005. It was quickly replaced but looking at the offensive line depth chart - Roaf, Waters, Wiegmann and Shields - wasn't such a bad thing.)

No changes were made but there will be two, however, by the next depth chart. The arrival of Andy Alleman and Ikechuku Ndukwe mean they'll be added somewhere on the list below.

RG: Mike Goff, Tavares Washington, Colin Brown

C: Rudy Niswanger, Eric Ghiaciuc

LG: Brian Waters, Wade Smith, Daryl Harris

I'm thinking Washington and Brown can fairly easily be jumped. Washington has spent a significant portion of camp in 'No Man's Land' while Brown is just a rookie.

I'll need to wait for a few camp reports before I can decide how the center position might be affected.

Waters, of course, is sticking with the one's but like Washington, Smith has spent some time injured so I can't imagine his spot is secure.

I've got a few more notes on the depth chart after the jump.

Dwayne Bowe on the third team - He's still listed with the third team even though he's clearly been the best receiver on the field in both games. I wouldn't read anything into this - definitely a motivational tool at this point.

Sean Ryan is still ahead of Brad Cottam - We still have no idea where we stand on tight ends. I'm not sure whether to make anything of this.

Damion McIntosh ahead of Barry Richardson - Richardson played with the first team last week and even started Friday's game against the Vikings. He didn't play great, according to more than a few folks, so McIntosh replaced him at the start of the second quarter.

Alfonso Boone ahead of Tyson Jackson - TJ participated with the first team today. He will (hopefully) see a lot more action in game three.

You can view the entire depth chart here.

It looks like Josh Looney at the Mothership and Bob Gretz at CBS Sports are going to be giving us our camp updates while the Chiefs are in Kansas City.

Many thanks to both men for keeping us all informed.

Today the Chiefs continued with their River Falls schedule starting at 8:50 AM. Here are a few general highlights:

After being stopped on four consecutive plays at the one in the Vikings game, the Chiefs focused on goal line action

Tyler Thigpen practiced after having all of last week off

Barry Richardson was still with the first team at RT

More after the jump.

General stuff

Still no Arrowheads on the helmets (Josh Looney at the Mothership)

Full pads this morning (Bob Gretz at CBS Sports)

Offense

Chiefs focused on goal line situations at full contact (Josh Looney at the Mothership)

Larry Johnson jumped high over the goal line - there were arguments from both sides whether the ball popped out before he scored (Josh Looney at the Mothership)

Barry Richardson stayed with the first team at RT (Josh Looney at the Mothership)

Defense

Tyson Jackson worked with the first team at DE (Josh Looney at the Mothership)

With Jackson running with the first team, Alfonso Boone moved to the second team (Bob Gretz at CBS Sports)

Haley paid extra attention to the nose tackles (Josh Looney at the Mothership)

Maurice Leggett picked off a pass that was tipped (Josh Looney at the Mothership)

In goal line work, the Chiefs defense stopped the offense three consecutive times forcing two fumbles (Bob Gretz at CBS Sports)

Special teams

Maurice Leggett took reps as a punt returner and as a gunner (Josh Looney at the Mothership)

Injuries

Kolby Smith and Zach Thomas did not participate today (Josh Looney at the Mothership)

Colin Brown did not participate in the first 30 minutes of practice this morning (Bob Gretz at CBS Sports)

Updated 1:25 PM

Continuing to work in full pads, the Kansas City Chiefs' practice was cut short by 30 minutes today, presumably as a gift from Todd Haley to his players.

A few highlights from the updates we have in so far:

Herb Taylor is working with the 1st team at RT

Amani Toomer continues to be the team's standout receiver

Six Chiefs didn't practice this morning

More updates, after the jump.

General Stuff

DeMaurice Smith, who succeeded Gene Upshaw as the executive director of the NFL Players Association, is on the field watching the Chiefs practice. (Bob Gretz at CBS Sports)

Mike Vrabel was seen talking to Smith after practice (UWRF)

Chiefs coach Todd Haley gave his team a surprise this morning, cutting practice short by 30 minutes. It was the quickest practice in the two weeks the team has been in Wisconsin. (Bob Gretz at CBS Sports)

16 sessions deep and this team has yet to go a day without full pads (Josh Looney on Twitter)

Practice started at 70 degrees and ended at 81 degrees. 78% (!) humidity.

Former TE Mark Bavaro was helping TEs coach Bob Bicknell today. Bavaro will be with the team through Saturday. (UWRF)

This is why we love the UWRF staff: "After practice, linebacker Corey Mays dropped his mouth guard on the pavement on his way into Hunt Arena. He commented on how it was gross and talked to a trainer about the situation for a few minutes."

Offense

Herb Taylor is working at RT with the Chiefs' No. 1 offense in place of Damion McIntosh. (Bob Gretz at CBS Sports)

WR Amani Toomer drew some praise from Coach Haley yesterday and he made another two solid grabs this morning. (Josh Looney at the Mothership)

Red zone work continues as the team has devoted nearly 20 minutes to the red zone passing game. (Josh Looney at the Mothership)

RBs worked on catching low thrown balls (UWRF)

During the first set of 7-on-7 drills, Cassel completed six consecutive throws. Four of them to Copper and one TD (UWRF)

During the second set of 7-on-7 drills, Cassel completed four of six passes, including one to Darling for a TD (UWRF)

Croyle completed 5/6 passes during 7-on-7 drills (UWRF)

Thigpen went 2/4 with a TD in 7-on-7 drills (UWRF)

Between two QBs, three consecutive passes went to Toomer (UWRF)

Rodney Wright dropped an easy pass and heard it ("That's bull(crap)") from Haley (UWRF)

Thigpen completed a nice pass under pressure from the d-line (UWRF)

Albert said he has his hands full trying to stop Tamba Hali (UWRF)

Defense

Chiefs No. 1 draft choice DE Tyson Jackson continues to get extra work after practice with defensive line coach Tim Krumrie. Jackson is trying to make up for the week of practices he missed during contract negotiations. (Bob Gretz at CBS Sports)

Derrick Johnson knocked down a Cassel pass intended for Cottam during a blitzing drill (UWRF)

FA rookie alert: Londen Fryar and Jovan Belcher both knocked down passes today (UWRF)

On two of three plays intended for Terrance Copper, Flowers and Carr both knocked a pass down (UWRF)

Special Teams

We’ve seen onside kick work for the first time this camp…looks like the coaches are leaving no stone unturned heading into Saturday. (Josh Looney at the Mothership)

Updated 6:14 PM

The afternoon Kansas City Chiefs training camp updates are rolling in. We'll update this post as more info comes in.

For now, a few highlights:

D. Bowe is still struggling

Demorrio Williams is practicing for the first time this camp

Five Chiefs sat out today rehabbing

More on today's training camp practice, after the jump.

General Stuff

81 degrees, 40% humidity and just a few clouds with a slight breeze

24 packages of 24 bottles of Gatorade were delivered today which should last the rest of camp (UWRF)

Offense

WR Dwayne Bowe continues to struggle. When the Chiefs receivers were working on catching the ball while being hit by two coaches, Bowe was 0-6. He was the only receiver that didn't catch at least one pass. (Bob Gretz at CBS Sports)

Amani Toomer had a nice catch over the middle during 11 on 11 (Josh Looney at the Mothership)

One of the biggest highlights of watching camp practices are the OL/DL one-on-one drills. Today was a great segment as C Rudy Niswanger stuck out as having a good round. Niswanger and DT Tank Tyler took a ton of reps against one another and both battled hard. (Josh Looney at the Mothership)

The O has made a number of nice place on their way to the red zone, but the defense continues to step up and keep the offense out of the promise land. (Josh Looney at the Mothership)

And the jinx comes right away as QB Tyler Thigpen hits WR Dwayne Bowe for a 35-yard TD. Bowe made a juggling catch, the type he has seemed to do best over his first two years in KC. (Josh Looney at the Mothership)

Thigpen hit Jeff Webb for a completion. Ricky Price then hit Webb, who fumbled the ball (UWRF)

Haley yelled at Dantrell Savage several times for not running hard (UWRF)

Javarris Williams lost his shoe on a play but completed it before running back to pick it up (UWRF)

More on Bowe's problems catching the ball in traffic: "Bowe was forced to repeat the drill multiple times but was unable to come up with a catch. Wide Receivers Coach Dedric Ward finally had enough and moved on." (UWRF)

O-line coach Bill Muir to the line during a drill: "I am (freaking) tired of you peoples’ (crap)!” Muir said. (UWRF)

Defense

Chiefs ILB Monty Beisel returned to practice after missing five days with an unknown injury. (Bob Gretz at CBS Sports)

For the first time in this camp, Chiefs LB Demorrio Williams is dressed for practice. He missed the first 14 practices with an unspecified leg injury. (Bob Gretz at CBS Sports).

Dion Gales and Derek Lokey both jumped offsides and had to run (UWRF)

Haley complimented the defense on getting to the quarterback so much (UWRF)

Thigpen fumbled a snap and Tank Tyler wrestled it away from Jackie Battle (UWRF)

Alphonso Boone knocked down two consecutive Cassel passes (UWRF)

Tyson Jackson and Alex Magee worked with Tim Krumrie in the heat after practice (UWRF)

Special Teams

Another good day for Chiefs rookie K Ryan Succop. He was 4 for 4, hitting from 33, 36, 40 and 44 yards. (Bob Gretz at CBS Sports)

Quinten Lawrence and Rodney Wright took all the returns today (UWRF)

Injuries/Not practicing

Five players are missing from Chiefs practice and working with the rehab team: RB Kolby Smith, ILB Zach Thomas, S DaJuan Morgan and OGs Wade Smith and Tavares Washington. (Bob Gretz at CBS Sports)

Brandon Albert left with the trainer for a few minutes but came back. He sat out one-on-one blocking drills (UWRF)

I want to preface this post by saying I'm generally pretty optimistic about the NFL draft and the Kansas City Chiefs' selections. I think the NFL draft is at best a crap shoot and to immediately label any player a boom or bust is simply not being patient. Although I may have preferred different players than the Chiefs drafted, I can see why they drafted every single one. This team has a plan and we owe it the coaches, front office and the players themselves to at least let them take the field for a few games before we proclaim them buffoons. You can be skeptical or angry but remember that at the end of the day, we all want these guys to be successful in Kansas City.

Yes, like many, I was surprised when the Chiefs selected Tyson Jackson at #3, among their other picks. But I see where he fits in the team's plans and how his presence will inevitably help one of the worst defenses in franchise history. I'm very open to giving new coaches and execs the benefit of the doubt and I hope you are too.

Why the patience? Because Pioli has shown he's a top notch personnel guy who selects players with a big picture mentality in mind. We won't always understand why this team will do some of the things it will do but Pioli's track record commands respect until he does something to lose it.

***

One late trade and that was it

Before Scott Pioli came to the Kansas City chiefs, he had the distinction of being part of the tradingest draft-day team in the league in the last decade. Between 2000 and 2008, the Patriots made 28 draft-weekend trades. New England traded up 12 times, and they traded down 16 times during that period.

Surprising most of us, the Kansas City Chiefs and Scott Pioli made only one very late draft day trade this year, dealing next year's 7th round pick to the Miami Dolphins to grab TE Jake O'Connell in the 7th round.

Pioli made exactly one trade while Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots traded down multiple times, seemingly controlling their end of the draft at will. Pioli received no serious calls about trading out of the #3 pick and without a second round pick, the Chiefs found themselves out of the trade talk as first round prospects fell into the early second round.

The Picks

Instead of trading out, the Chiefs found themselves reaching for the first player they wanted. Tyson Jackson was a late top ten pick by most accounts but that didn't matter to Scott Pioli and Todd Haley. Pioli feels like Jackson's versatility will allow the Chiefs much more flexibility in the defensive schemes they play. He's definitely a defensive foundation pick if I've ever seen one. A player you put "impact" players around.

Alex Magee actually went right around his projection when the Chiefs took him early in the third round. Same thing with CB Donald Washington, who was projected to go even in the third round and the Chiefs picked him up early in the fourth round.

Missouri OT Colin Brown was probably the Chiefs' biggest reach of the draft. Many draft boards had him as a 7th round, UDFA prospect. Clearly, Pioli and Haley saw something they liked in Brown so they took him in the fifth round.Perhaps Haley is contemplating a some version of the spread offense, which Brown played in at Missouri.

6th round pick WR/KR Quinten Lawrence is much like his 6th round predecessor last year Kevin Robinson. Lawrence looks to be faster than Robinson and like him will have to earn his keep on special teams to earn a roster spot. Just the type of guy you take in the 6th round.

RB Javarris Williams, the Chiefs' first 7th round pick, is a pick where Pioli and Haley saw a guy who was rated higher than where he was so they snagged him. This seems like a value pick to me more than a need. But with Larry Johnson's future in KC up in the air, the selection of Javarris Williams may mean one more running back will be added to the committee.

TE Jake O'Connell is a very curious pick. He was an undrafted free agent on most draft boards and doesn't fill a huge priority - so why use the draft pick on him? We'll have to wait until camp to find out but the Chiefs' brass likely sees him as a project as a receiving tight end. Considering the Chiefs just lost the greatest receiving tight end in the history of the NFL, I will give my approval to this pick.

K Ryan Succup is another interesting pick, especially considering he's now the fourth kicker on the Chiefs roster. Incumbent Connor Barth played well enough last season to be considered the favorite heading into training camp but we can be rest assured that the kickers will be in a full blown competition. Let the best man win.

Did we address our needs?

Like with most team's drafts, the answer is yes and no. I will say that through the combination of free agency and the draft that I believe the Chiefs at least have enough talent and addressed enough glaring needs to make it through this season but they're not set in a lot of positions for years down the road.

One point you can't argue is that the Chiefs' defense was the biggest problem with the team last season. Pioli and Haley attacked that need by going defense with the first three picks. And the first two picks were spent on defensive linemen. A smart but not necessarily sexy move, considering the Chiefs had one of the worst rushing defenses in franchise history last year.

I hear you on wanting a pass rusher. But who? You have to answer me that. Did you really want Brian Orakpo or Aaron Maybin with the #3 pick? Jackson's versatility makes him more valuable than this year's sub-par pass rushers. Taking one of those guys would be like rushing out to get the newest model of a car, even though there isn't anything particularly special about it. You just want the latest model, regardless of improvements.

One interesting thing is that we didn't draft a linebacker. For a team who was supposedly likely to take LB Aaron Curry at #3, Pioli and Haley seem to be content with the mix of veterans and rookies on the roster now.

How are we on the offensive iine now?

With the lone offensive lineman addition Colin Brown, this is how the Chiefs' depth chart currently breaks down on the offensive line (projected starter in bold):

LT Branden Albert, Herb Taylor

LG Brian Waters, Brian De La Puente, Edwin Harrison

C Rudy Niswanger

RG Mike Goff, Wade Smith, Tavares Washington

RT Damion McIntosh, Barry Richardson, Colin Brown

Look at that. If Brown is able to move into the starting right tackle position, that's not a bad offensive line. It won't last us ten years but it's not bad heading into the '09 season.

I think offensive line was less of a need to the Chiefs than we thought it was in our analysis. There is still work to be done but that looks like it will wait until next season.

It's (almost) over

The undrafted free agents will continue to come in and we'll be posting them, probably in FanShots unless there is a whole slew of them. This has sort of a mini-draft feeling for a few hours after the real thing.

What. A. Weekend. I honestly blogged and watched the draft for probably close to 20 hours in just two days.

Linebacker in the 3-4 is a very blue collar job. They are super important players but its a position that is popular and accommodates a lot of different people.

Look at the Steelers and how they draft their LBs. Ever heard of James Harrison? Defensive player of the year? Went undrafted and cut from the team twice before the steelers built him up into a great LB.

66% accuracy? This is a joke. I am okay with the other picks in the draft but this one honestly had me stumped. There is probably zero percent chance this guy is gonna be on our team because we can only keep one kicker. We should have at least found an inside lineman to develop. -Vince D

I run the SBN Gamecocks site. Here’s what you need to know about Succop. He had one of the longest legs in the college game last year, but consistency is a bit of an issue for him. He missed a bunch of kicks around the middle of 2008, leading to the questionable accuracy rating. Part of the problem seemed to have been some kind of pulled abdominal muscle, but part of it was also in his head, I think. If he can work out confidence issues, he’s got the skills to be a great NFL kicker. If not, oh well.

And yeah, your wives and girlfriends will want to leave you for him as soon as they see his picture. --Gamecock Man

For the reasons listed before the fold, I'm going to give this draft a B for the Kansas City Chiefs. Make sure you vote in the poll below.

We signed CB Travarous Bain and G Tavares Washington.

Bain (6-0, 182) originally entered the NFL with Arizona in 2007 as a rookie free agent. He attended training camp with the Cardinals each of the past two seasons, but was released prior to the start of the regular season on both occasions. Bain spent the final nine games of the 2007 season on Arizona’s practice squad.

Bain started 20 games over two seasons at Hampton after transferring from the University of Miami (FL). He led the Pirates with five interceptions as a senior and garnered first-team All-MEAC honors. He prepped at Northwestern High School in Miami, Florida.

Washington (6-4, 315) originally entered the NFL with San Francisco as a rookie free agent in 2006 and spent that entire campaign on the 49ers practice squad. He also spent a portion of the 2007 season on San Francisco’s developmental squad after being released prior to the start of the regular season. Washington attended training camp with the Redskins in 2008, but was released prior to the start of the regular season.

The Greenville, Mississippi native played in 18 games (12 starts) at Florida after transferring from Mississippi Delta Junior College. He finished his prep career at South Delta High School in Greenville, Mississippi.

Dowayne Davis and Scott Mayle were released from the practice squad after being signed a few weeks ago.
