I just wanted to pass along a charity event 1050 ESPN Radio is doing tomorrow for the Marty Lyons Foundation. Lyons was a member of the fabled New York Sack Exchange and is currently the color commentator on the team's radio broadcasts.

NEW YORK (NOVEMBER 30, 2009) – 1050 ESPN New York, the flagship station of ESPN Radio, will broadcast its 6^th Annual Mike & Mike in the Morning Holiday Broadcast live this Wed., Dec. 2 (6 – 10AM) from the Hard Rock Cafe New York in Times Square. The event is open to the public; those in attendance will get meet-and-greets with star athletes, a live performance by MCA Nashville recording artist David Nail, access to hourly ticket giveaways, and more.

Scheduled to appear: former Giants Amani Toomer, Harry Carson, Mark Bavaro and Joe Morris; former Jets Marty Lyons, Joe Klecko, Bruce Harper and Ray Lucas; ESPN NFL Football analysts Herman Edwards, Tim Hasselbeck and Adam Schefter; members of the Jets Flight Crew; and a visit from Greg Buttle dressed as Santa.

Those in attendance can purchase tickets to an upcoming New York Knicks game for $10.50. A silent auction with a broad range of items from Steiner Sports including a 1969 Jets team-signed helmet with case will be available for bidding. 100% of the money raised from the Knicks tickets as well as the net proceeds of the items from Steiner will go to the Marty Lyons Foundation.

Back in March, I spilled some digital ink considering whether the Packers should sign veteran free agent DE Kevin Carter. I still think he would be a good backup to DE Cullen Jenkins. At this point, I doubt the Packers remain interested. But it appears Detroit is interested in signing him.
WR Brandon Marshall still wants to be traded. John at Mile High Report says he wants him to remain a Bronco, but it's not essential that they keep him.

It's one-and-done for LB Boss Bailey in Denver. He was released after just one season in Denver. The Packers kicked the tires on signing Bailey back in March 2008, but Denver offered him a silly multi-year contract.

I know you are all tired of Plaxico Burress stories (me, too) but this amazing rip job by Tim Hasselbeck, ex-Giants backup QB and current ESPN talking head, is too good not to comment on.

"When you're looking at Plaxico Burress, there's no doubt that he can be a dominant receiver at times on Sundays," Hasselbeck said. "We've seen it. But with that being said, I played with the guy. I was in the locker room with him for two years. He's a disaster as a teammate. He's a disaster as a guy that you have to coach.

"And what do I mean by that? If you want to wait for a guy to show up to meetings, if you want to have to beg a guy to run full-speed in practice, if you want a guy that would disappear in games because he doesn't get the ball early -- then look, Plaxico Burress is your guy.

"But if you don't want those distractions, and you don't want to deal with the other headaches that come along with Plaxico Burress, then you better stay away from him."

There might be some 'failed NFL QB trying to make a name for himself as an analyst' in Hasselbeck's remarks. I love them, anyway.

Good luck to the Jets, or anyone else who takes on Plax. You will need it.

Real Solutions To The Kansas City Quarterback Problem

So, here's the deal. The feelings regarding our quarterback situation are mixed. However, I feel that a majority of folks are looking to make a change and then some of that group wants to make a change NOW.

I'm on record as saying there's nothing we can do to better the quarterback situation now. Trade scenarios, while always an interesting discussion, almost never come to fruition. There's a reason talented quarterbacks never hit the open market.

Below is a list of quarterbacks who are currently free agents. Keeping this list in mind, I want to hear real solutions to the quarterback problem. Pretend as if trading is not an option (because realistically it's probably not). Anyone can say 'Hey it's not working dump 'em all!' But that's not the way it works.

Tell us who you want and WHY. The latter is key. Would any of these players help us now? Do we currently have the best options on staff?
