Warren Sapp May Be Done At NFL Network

A couple of days ago we learned that Warren Sapp is bankrupt, despite the fact that he reportedly pulls in $540,000 a year from the NFL Network. Upon closer examination, though, he may need to update his résumé.

As Greg A. Bedard points out in the Boston Globe, Sapp hasn't been on the air since the week he publicly called Jeremy Shockey a "snitch" in the wake of Bountygate. One league source tells Bedard that Sapp's next appearance has not been determined, while another says that Sapp's contract is unlikely to be renewed when it expires in August. Talk is cheap? Not in this case.

Jeremy Shockey Provides Photographic Anti-Snitching Evidence

Following the rulings being handed down in the New Orleans Saints "Bountygate" scandal, Warren Sapp and Jeremy Shockey got into a bit of a virtual slapfight on Twitter. In short: Sapp accused Shockey of ratting out the Saints and their defensive bounty, at which point Shockey protested, "Nuh-uh!" Long after Sapp lost interest in the fight he picked, Shockey kept valiantly defending his own honor. On Thursday, he presented photographic evidence proving, one and for all, he's not the snitch.

Shockey sent out a Tweet reading "The truth shall set u free!" with the following picture attached:

So there you have it, folks. incontrovertible evidence that Shockey is not the rat. Hopefully, his running inside and saying, "Coach! Coach! Some big old dumb-face said I was a tattletale!" will put this The Departed-level tale of intrigue and cover-ups to rest.

Actually, what I'm most interested in is the text message cut off at the top there, where discussion of hugs is taking place. What sort of foul huggery are the Saints getting up to behind closed doors? I hereby dub this new twist in the tale "Hugglesgate."

You just knew this wasn't going to end well. Warren Sapp apparently thought he found out who broke open the New Orleans Saints bounty investigation. So, of course, he tweeted it.

Jeremy Shockey, Amani Toomer In Twitter Spat

A Twitter war has broken out between former New York Giants teammates Jeremy Shockey and Amani Toomer. The flame war started with the news that Shockey, who was traded from the Giants after a 2008 shouting match with Jerry Reese, said he would be interested in a return to the team.

Responding to a tweet from New York Daily news columnist Gary Myers, Toomer called the former Giants tight end a "bad teammate. Worse person." The entire tweet is below.

Shockey responded with a couple of remarks, one aimed at the New York media and one especially for Toomer.

"It's funny how the Ny media still try's to make money off me! Can anyone find a quote from me on me wanting to play for the GAINTS?"

About Toomer, Shockey tweeted:

"Haha. Well he was the lazy one that broke my leg!!" Shockey also added in a message sent to Toomer "Go get a bucket of rocks and start throwing them at your glass house."

Ah, fun. Do we miss Shockey around New York, gang?

Former New York Giants tight end Jeremy Shockey used the Heimlich maneuver to save Carolina Panthers teammate Ben Hartsock, reports Brad Biggs of the National Football Post.

Dining in the team cafeteria, Hartsock choked on a piece of pork tenderloin and couldn't free it by drinking a glass of water, at which point "it became evident to others in the room he could not breathe," Biggs writes. Mike McCartney, Hartsock's agent, tells the rest of the story:

“Some new guy came and tried to give him the Heimlich. It didn’t work. Then, Shockey hit him in the back pretty hard and out came the meat. The Panthers told me it was really scary.

“Ben told me Shockey came over and gave me the Heimlich Maneuver and saved my life. He was in good spirits and he’s real thankful for Shockey.”

Now, Shockey's a lifesaver off the field as well as on it.

Along with the love and admiration of the Giants faithful, Shockey earned Pro Bowl trips in four of his six seasons with New York, during which he caught 371 passes for 4228 yards and 27 touchdowns. This season will be his first as a Panther, following a three-year stint with the New Orleans Saints.

Not only is the NFL lockout pretty much going to end on Thursday in Atlanta, it's Jeremy Shockey who's most vocally proclaiming the deal done. Shockey, of course, has played for every team in the NFC South besides the Falcons, and -- wait, he hasn't played for Tampa yet?

Jeremy Shockey is the most Tampa player of all time, more so than Aqib Talib, Chris Hovan, Kellen Winslow or even Ben Roethlisberger himself.

Jeremy Shockey Signs With Carolina Panthers, Keeping The NFC South Tattoo-y

Former New Orleans Saints tight end Jeremy Shockey recently narrowed his search for a new team down to two: the Miami Dolphins and Carolina Panthers. Though he passed a physical with the Fins, today he announced via Facebook he'll be joining Carolina.

For the Atlanta Falcons fan, here's what we get to see.

A player who is capable of impacting games has slid across the NFC South from a Super Bowl champion to the worst team in the NFL. He's also left a town that was so very Shockey in so very many ways for ACC basketball country. From the Superdome to Bank of America Stadium: there's your story. So enjoy watching a division rival go extra hard against another.

Whether Shockey will bring it, avoid injuries, and avoid being a distraction while working with a first-year head coach, a ill-reputation'd owner, and quite possibly a rookie quarterback remains to be seen. The Saints cut him because they had a younger, cheaper option in Jimmy Graham, while the Panthers need something, anything to translate into a reason to be excited for 2011 Panthers football.

Jeremy Shockey Cut By New Orleans Saints After Three Seasons

Jeremy Shockey and the New Orleans Saints are no longer an item, with the team announcing they've terminated Shockey's contract. With rookie Jimmy Graham around, the Saints are going to get plenty of production from their tight end position, and Shockey's injury issues that have lingered his entire career show no sign of going away.

I don't think this has all that much of an effect on the Atlanta Falcons -- Graham is a capable replacement for Shockey, plus he's much younger and cheaper. The Saints lose depth at the position, but judging by the way Sean Payton finds wide receivers in his couch cushions that's probably not much of a concern either.

Just to head off what's coming next: no, the Falcons will not sign Shockey. The team needs a younger tight end to work as Tony Gonzalez' apprentice. Shockey is younger than Gonzalez, but so is almost everybody, and he's going to cost much more than a rookie would. Plus he's getting up there in years anyway.
