Despite the Bears 5-7 record, it might be easy to overlook this game since they just ended a 4 game losing streak with a close win over the 1-11 Rams, and they haven't beaten a team with a winning record this season. They did beat the Steelers in week 2, but both the Steelers and Bears have fallen on recent hard times (Steelers have lost their last 5 games, and Bears have lost 4 of their last 5). Here's the Sports Network's Packers vs Bears preview.

Here are the official NFL rankings, based on yardage, from NFL.com:

Taking a closer look, the official stats by yardage are making the Bears pass offense and pass defense look better than they really are. While the pass offense is moving the ball, QB Jay Cutler is also turning it over, and he has a league leading 20 INTs. Their pass defense has only given up 4 pass plays over 40 yards (tied for 6th best), but they've given up 21 TD passes (tied for 6th worst) and only grabbed 11 INTs. That doesn't make them bad, just average, and they're currently ranked No. 16 overall by Football Outsiders.

RB Ryan Grant vs. the Bears' run defense. His last two games have been forgettable, but that doesn't mean the Bears can stop him. In recent games, the Eagles RB LeSean McCoy had his best game as a pro (99 yards and 1 TD), and RB Steven Jackson ran for 112 yards despite QB Kyle Boller offering nothing to fear from the Rams passing game. They did hold RB Adrian Peterson to 85 yards (3.4 yards/carry) two weeks ago, but only because they put everything into stopping the running game, and the Vikings rolled for 378 yards and 3 TDs through the air. In the cold weather, the Bears might do what the Ravens did last Monday night: keep the safeties in tight and make QB Aaron Rodgers throw down the field, so I'm not expecting a huge game from Grant.

Rodgers vs. the Bears' pass defense. They shut down Boller last week at home, but that was just Kyle Boller. The last time they faced a good QB at home was three weeks ago, when QB Donovan McNabb went for 244 yards, 1 TD, and a QB rating of 101.6 against them. Rodgers just had 263 yards and 3 TDs against the better Ravens pass defense in the cold, so he should be productive again this week.

RB Matt Forte vs. the Packers' run defense. They were great against RB Ray Rice last week, so Forte isn't a bigger challenge. While Rice is ranked by Football Outsiders as one of the best RB this season, Forte is ranked as one of the worst. RB Kahlil Bell had 11 carries last week, but still over 60% of his career yardage has come from one 72 yard run he had against the Eagles. Forte has averaged only 3.4 yards/carry this season, and only had 1 game when he had over 10 carries and averaged over 4 yards/carry. He remains a greater threat as a receiver than as a runner. Despite the numerous injuries on the Packers' defensive line, they should have no trouble limiting the Bears' running attack.

QB Jay Cutler vs. the Packers' pass defense. Cutler had 4 INTs in their first meeting and he hasn't been much better since. LT Orlando Pace is not likely to play, but the 7 time Pro Bowl LT appears to be at the end of the road anyway. The Packers did a great job shutting down Ravens' QB Joe Flacco last week, and the Ravens' best passing play was to try and draw a flag on CB Tramon Williams. That could work again this week, but penalties alone aren't going to win it for the Bears.

Special teams and penalties. While the Packers have an advantage in nearly every other area, here's where the Bears can make it a close game. According to TeamRankings.com, the Bears are 5th worst with 54.3 penalty yards per game, but the Packers are in a league of their own (though the Ravens aren't far behind) with 75.4 penalty yards per game. The Packers special teams continue to be the worst in the NFL, according to Football Outsiders, while the Bears are one of the best. WR Devin Hester isn't the most dangerous punt returner this season, but rookie WR Johnny Knox might be the best kick returner.

If the Bears have a strong return game, and can force a couple turnovers, then this one could be close. But the Packers have taken good care of the ball this season, and should be able to win in Chicago for the first time since 2006. Packers 27, Bears 17.

It was announced today that Vikings' WR Percy Harvin was named NFL offensive rookie of the month and deservingly so. He had a big month.

Among the finalists for the award this month were the Eagles first and second round picks.

Philadelphia wide receiver JEREMY MACLIN (first round, Missouri), who had 24 catches for 294 yards and two touchdowns

Philadelphia running back LESEAN MCCOY (second round, Pittsburgh), who rushed for 316 yards (4.9 average) and two touchdowns and had 14 receptions for 114 yards.

This week's stat has to do with the Eagles young players. When I say "young" players I don't just mean young in terms of their time in the NFL, they're young in age. Even for rookies there they're young. Jeremy Maclin and LeSean McCoy both declared for the NFL draft as juniors and are both still just 21 years old... and they're shaping up to be some of the best 21 year olds to ever play the game.

LeSean McCoy is the 25th player in NFL history to rush for 500 yards in a season before his 22nd birthday, and Jeremy Maclin is the 11th player in NFL history with 500 receiving yards in a season before his 22nd birthday.

The Eagles are the first team in NFL history to have a running back and a wide receiver with 500 yards apiece in the same season before their 22nd birthdays.

The article also mentions that if Maclin keeps on his current pace he'll have the second most yards for a 21 year old ever behind only Randy Moss. That said, Vikings rookie Percy Harvin would be there as well if he keeps up his pace.

Comcast is carrying the new NFL Red Zone channel. NFL Red Zone lets you follow all the red zone action on NFL Sunday as it happens. When a team gets inside the twenty, the network cuts to that game. It's a fantasy player's dream.

They don't ever break for commercials and the action literally never stops. They don't just limit it to red zone trips either... I was watching last weekend and they would show any game live if no team happened to be in the red zone. This is probably the best thing ever invented for an NFL fan that's looking for something to flip to when the Eagles game goes to commercials...

This RedZone channel was the only reason I got to see Vince Young’s epic drive and silly pass against the Cardinals. It really is awesome.

I can't think of many cases in which I call an injury a "good thing" in fantasy football, but the fact is, those who have been relying on Matt Ryan shouldn't be too upset about the Atlanta Falcons' quarterback already being ruled out for the team's Week 13 game against the Philadelphia Eagles because of turf toe. If you noticed the trend in our rankings, we weren't counting on Ryan for much anyway, as he's been struggling for much of this season and rarely approaching his draft-day value. Now you have no choice but to sit him, which you should have been doing anyway.

This is the next part in our series of previews of the Eagles 2009 opponents. Joining us for this feature is Dave Schwab, who writes about the Eagles at his site Eagles Lincs.

The Eagles travel to Atlanta this week to face the 6-5 Falcons in hopes extending their winning streak to three games. Big injuries to big players plague both teams... So how will this one play out?

Dave's full analysis is after the jump.

The Eagles are back on the road next week when the travel to Atlanta to play the Falcons on Sunday, December 6^th in a 1:00 P.M start. Last week both teams needed dramatic come from behind wins against teams they were heavily favored to beat keeping their playoff hopes intact. Philly fell behind by eight points to the Redskins early in the 4^th quarter before scoring a touchdown, 2 point conversion, and a 32 yard field goal to secure the 27-24 win, moving their record to 7-4 on the year. Atlanta needed even greater heroics to beat Tampa Bay. Playing in place of injured QB Matt Ryan, Chris Redman found Roddy White for a five yard touchdown reception on 4^th and goal with 26 seconds left in the game to pull out a 20-17 win that moved their record to 6-5.

Along with Matt Ryan, who left early in the game with a toe injury RB Michael Turner was also knocked out of the game with Tampa after reinjuring his right ankle in the third quarter. Their ability to play on Sunday will have a huge impact on Atlanta’s offense. If Ryan cannot go, 7^th year veteran Redman will get the 11^th career start of his career. In last week’s game he completed 23 of 41 attempts for 243 yards and 2 TD’s including the game winner. A much bigger loss for the Falcons would be Turner. So far this season he has run for 864 yards on 177 carries, averaging 4.9 yards per carry and 10 TD’s. His backups include Jason Snelling who has run for 267 yards and 3 TD’s and Jerious Norwood who only has 25 carries on the year. Another big factor in the Falcon’s offense is TE Tony Gonzalez who has 61 receptions for 666 yards and 5 TD’s. No matter who is throwing the ball, Gonzalez will have to be accounted for in the Eagles’ defensive scheme. The two other main receiving threats for Atlanta are White, who has 56 receptions this season and Michael Jenkins who has 40.

The Eagles should be able to move the ball against Atlanta as their defense is not one of the strong points of this team. They are currently ranked 27^th in yards allowed (373.9) and in passing yards allowed (252.6). They are giving up an average of 22.3 points per game while the Eagles are averaging 26.6. As in the Washington game, the key to winning this game will be Philadelphia’s ability to run the ball. With Brian Westbrook still out of the lineup, LeSean McCoy will be the primary back. Along with FB Leonard Weaver they will once again need to establish the run to set up the pass in order to try and take advantage of vulnerable Atlanta secondary with some big plays. A huge question mark for the Eagles will be the availability of WR DeSean Jackson who was knocked out of the Washington game with a concussion. If he cannot go, look for Jason Avant and Jeremy Maclin to be the primary targets for Donovan McNabb.

The Falcons breathed new life into their season with the win over Tampa. At 6-5 they are out of the NFC South division race, but only one game back in the chase for a wildcard spot. They are playing at home which gives them a huge edge in this game as they are 5-0 in the friendly confines of the Georgia Dome. While the Eagles match-well against them in most phases of the game, they cannot afford to be as inconsistent as they were against the Redskins last week. Atlanta has shown the ability to protect a lead as well as come from behind to win a game. It will be up to Philadelphia’s defense to stop some third down conversions and their offense to avoid stalling out in the second half. It will take a full 60 minute effort to get another much needed win as well as put a serious dent in Atlanta’s playoff chances.

The stat of the week comes from Eagles beat writer Geoff Mosher, who noticed the Eagles playcalling from the point in the 4th quarter where they were behind by 8 points.

After falling behind 8 in 4th, they RAN 10 times on final 19 plays - more than 50 percent run.

A bonus stat that partly ties in with his observation of the playcalling is his stats about the Eagles' rookies on the game winning drive. I cleaned up the twitterspeak.

On the Eagles’ final 2 drives, Jeremy Maclin & LeSean McCoy, 1st and 2nd rd picks, totaled 73 of team’s 158 yards. Averaged 8.1 yards per touch.

Andy Reid on the back to back comeback wins

I'm proud of the guys for battling through. When you play these NFC East teams, especially this one here (Washington), last year we did not beat them. We went down (to Washington) at about this time of the year, and we had momentum and everything else going and we didn't play very well and came out on the other end of this. So I'm proud of the guys battling through and doing what they had to do. (Washington head coach) Jim (Zorn) is keeping that team together and they battled the same way against the Cowboys as they battled against us. They battled their hearts out."

Jeremy Maclin talked about the big catch he made on the winning drive

"It felt good. First, to know that (QB) Don (Donovan McNabb) had the confidence to throw the ball to me, especially after (WR) Jason (Avant) came up big today. It felt good to go out there and make the play, just being reliable to your quarterback."

Speaking of that catch... Redskins rookie CB Kevin Barnes, who was defending Maclin on that play, gave credit to McNabb.

I would've had an interception," Barnes said. "It was just a great ball by McNabb, to the outside foot of Maclin. If it had been anywhere else I would've intercepted it."

Donovan McNabb was asked to repeat what he said to the team before the the drive that tied the game

"I can't do that. That wouldn't go well in the paper. You know, I think really when you reflect on what happened in the third quarter it was mainly miscues, mistakes and just making sure we were all on the same page. I thought our receivers did a great job of just trying to create separation and if it was just one half second or whatever it may be, just making sure the offensive line was on the same page and at times I thought there were plays that we should have made that either maybe I could have brought the ball in a little bit more or we dropped the ball. But you know what, it's not really how you start, it's how you finish. And I thought this team really came together and was able to pull it out the way it was supposed to be done and the guys stepped up and made big plays for us."

Jeremiah Trotter singled out Tracy White for praise

Tracy White has always done a great job. He's stepped in when we've called upon him. Last week he was batting the balls down, and this week on third down on the big screen play. He's a guy that isn't just a special teams player because when he comes in on defense he always performs. He's doing a great job."

Leonard Weaver talked about the message he wanted to send to the Eagles sideline

"I was kind of letting them know, 'Let's continue to keep running it.' When you get down there (near the goal line), it's something that we've kind of struggled with, and I take pride in that because a lot of that is on me. So I was just saying, 'Hey let's keep running that thing.' And we finally got it in there. (It was) no frustration with getting the ball. I think I toted it a little bit today, and I'm pretty happy. I'm pretty content right now."

LeSean McCoy on the shovel pass that led to the 2 pt conversion

We do a lot of stuff out of that formation, mostly passing. We figured they would think it's a pass. They actually got a lot more penetration than we expected. They kind of rushed McNabb so much, and he just pitched it, it kind of got my defender to come around and it opened up for me. We did a great job and got it in there."

Jason Avant was asked about the 90 yard drive that tied the game

We don't think about it like that. Football is instinctive. We go out there and just think one play at a time. We don't think about having to go 90 yards. We think about getting the first first down. Everything begins to happen when guys make plays. Donovan was accurate and some guys stepped up, Jeremy made a couple big plays, and we got a win."

Quintin Mikell talked about the mentality of the defense heading into that final drive

"We were going to make sure we won the game. Everybody was hyped up. We knew that this was it and, as a defensive player, if we want to be considered one of the better defenses in the league and in Eagles history, we've got to come out on top in this kind of situation. So, we were excited for that."

Much like last week it wasn't the prettiest game from start to end, but it was another win that showed a ton of character for the Eagles. For the second straight week, Donovan McNabb led a 4th quarter comeback and the Eagles defense tightened up as the team continues to try to shed the notion that it can't win close games.

While it's certainly fair to say that Eagles still aren't "firing on all cylinders" it is still a fact in this league that you are what your record says you are. Right now the Eagles are 7-4, just a game back in the NFC East, and in control of at least a wildcard spot in the playoffs. Under Andy Reid, this team has historically started to play its best football in December. If that holds true again this year, the Eagles are well position heading into the final month of 2009.

Fantastic Fourth from McNabb

A week after he welcomed his 4th child into the world and led a 4th quarter comeback against the Bears, Donovan McNabb once again saved his best for the 4th quarter. It didn't start off well as McNabb's arm was hit and he threw his only pick of the day, but it was only up from there. Down 24-16 McNabb led drives of 90 and 66 yards totaling about 8 minutes to seal a 27-24 win.

Lesean McCoy continues to mature

In past years, the loss of Brian Westbrook would have sealed this team's fate. The Eagles recognized this and sought to correct that weakness by taking LeSean McCoy in the second round of the 2009 draft, so far Shady McCoy has made them look pretty smart. He ran the ball 17 times for 76 yards while his backfield mate Leonard Weaver added 6 carries for 44 yards to combine for a very efficient and effective running game. McCoy also caught 4 passes for 25 yards to bring his total to just over a 100 yards from scrimmage on the day.

He's certainly not Brian Westbrook yet, but he's been impressive nonetheless.

What happened to Brent Celek?

You could certainly make a case that Brent Celek has been the Eagles' most reliable and consistent producer all year, but today the guy absolutely laid an egg. Not only did he drop three passes later in the game which hit him in the hands, but he also committed a needless pass interference play in the first quarter which caused a TD pass to Desean Jackson to be called back. I'm sure he can bounce back, but today was an absolutely brutal day from the young TE.

Avant's breakout season continues

Jason Avant just had a fantastic day again. He makes tough catches, he breaks tackles, he runs great routes. The guy has really blossomed this year into more than just a third down, over the middle specialist. He's becoming a guy the defense has to worry about on every play.

While we're praising WRs, how about another strong game from the rookie Maclin? His great catch on the TD drive ended up being one of the most pivotal moments of the game. He ended the day with 5 grabs for 63 yards.

Asante Samuel, Redskins killer

Some guys just have the number of certain teams. That certainly seems to be the case with Asante Samuel, who now has 6 INTs in his last 8 games against the Redskins. There's no doubt his tackling leaves much to be desired, but his 2 picks today were huge in stopping the bleeding by an Eagles defense that seemed to be on the ropes in the second and third quarters. That's what playmakers are for.

"We knew with Stacy's knee there was going to be that first year back after knee surgery is a tough thing, especially as late as he had it. This isn't anything on Stacy's will or knowledge or any of that, it's just to plant that leg and feel comfortable with it, it goes in cycles a little bit. He'll be back in there."

LeSean McCoy talked about what his TD meant to his confidence

"In terms of my confidence, it definitely boosted it. Having the opportunity to make a play, even after a mistake, it was awesome. It's also on the shoulders of the line. There was some excellent blocking to make some room for us."

Donovan McNabb was asked what he said to Jay Cutler after the game

"I got a chance to talk to Jay a little bit. What we talked about, we are going to keep between us. It's a fraternity of the quarterbacks. I've been through a different situation, but somewhat similar to what he is going through right now. I will continue to provide confidence for him and let him know that he's not the only one who has been through a situation like this. Everyone's been through a situation where you struggle a little bit, but he will bounce back."

Andy Reid talked about what the win meant

"We haven't had a lot of luck in the close games. This time, the guys battled through. They really weren't worrying about what was happening, and just keep banging on. I am proud of them for that.
