Palmer, Meriweather and Moorman take home AFC weekly honors

Sports Network | October 28, 2009

New York, NY (Sports Network) - Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Carson Palmer, safety Brandon Meriweather of the New England Patriots and Buffalo Bills punter Brian Moorman have been selected as the AFC's top players for Week 7 of the NFL season.

Palmer got the offensive award as he went 20-for-24 with 233 yards and five touchdowns as the Bengals destroyed the Chicago Bears, 45-10. His five touchdowns were the second-best effort of his career while his 146.7 passer rating was a personal best.

In helping Cincinnati to a 5-2 record, its best since 2005 when the team won the AFC North division, he garnered his second weekly award.

Meriweather gained the defensive award after registering two interceptions in the first six minutes of the Patriots' 35-7 rout of Tampa Bay in London, England. On the Buccaneers' first drive he picked off a Josh Johnson pass and returned it 39 yards for his first career touchdown. He helped New England to its 17th straight win over an NFC opponent and a 5-2 record, good for first place in the AFC East division. In his third season out of Miami, it is his first weekly award.

Moorman garnered the special teams award as his 45.0 yards average on punts helped Buffalo take a 20-9 win over Carolina. Of his eight punts, four went inside the 20-yard line and he recorded a 50-yard punt for the seventh straight game. In his ninth year out of Pittsburg State, it is his fifth weekly award.
