Cincinnati, OH (Sports Network) - Cincinnati Bengals defensive end Antwan Odom, who was tied for the NFL lead with eight sacks, was placed on injured reserve Monday, effectively ending his season.
Odom tore his right Achilles tendon in the first quarter of Sunday's 28-17 loss to the Texans. Odom was chasing Houston quarterback Matt Schaub during a 12-yard scoring pass to tight end Owen Daniels with under a minute left in the quarter when he was hurt. Odom also blocked Kris Brown's 28- yard field goal attempt on Houston's first drive of the game.
Jonathan Fanene is slated to take Odom's starting spot for the remainder of 2009.
The Bengals also lost starting defensive tackle Domata Peko to a left knee injury in the first quarter. Head coach Marvin Lewis said that Peko's status for Sunday against Houston was uncertain.
