Broncos add veteran punter Berger

Englewood, CO (Sports Network) - The Denver Broncos waived punter Brett Kern and signed veteran Mitch Berger to replace him on Monday.

Berger, a two-time Pro Bowl selection in 1999 and 2004, ranks 10th in NFL history with a 43.0 average on 796 career punts.

The 16-year veteran played with the Steelers last season and Denver will be the eighth stop in his illustrious career with stints in Philadelphia, Minnesota, St. Louis, New Orleans, and Arizona.

Kern, in his second season with Denver, was ranked 11th in the league in punting average (46.1) before being released. The Toledo product had 46 punts last year for a 46.7 yard-average as well.
