Taylor heading back to Miami

Sports Network | May 13, 2009

Miami, FL (Sports Network) - Jason Taylor is apparently heading home and will return to the Miami Dolphins for the 2009 season.

The South Florida Sun-Sentinel reported that Taylor has agreed to a one-year deal worth $1.5 million to play for the Dolphins after spending one season with the Washington Redskins.

Taylor played his first 11 seasons with Miami, but was traded to Washington last offseason in exchange for a pair of draft picks. The Redskins released him in March.

Miami wasn't the only team in the market for Taylor, as the AFC East-rival New England Patriots were also said to be interested.

The 34-year-old Taylor had a rough season in Washington. He suffered a knee injury in the preseason and later battled a nagging calf injury that cost the six-time Pro Bowl selection three games.

Taylor's 29 tackles last season were a career low and his 3 1/2 sacks were the second-lowest total of his career, having posted 2 1/2 during the 1999 campaign.

The Dolphins selected Taylor in the third round of the 1997 NFL Draft. He was a Pro Bowl pick in each of his last four seasons with the Dolphins before the trade, and was the NFL's Defensive Player of the Year for the 2006 season.

Taylor has 120 1/2 career sacks and his eight touchdowns are the most by an NFL defensive lineman since 1970.
