Oakland, CA (Sports Network) - New York Jets running back Leon Washington broke his fibula in the first quarter of Sunday's 38-0 win over the Raiders, putting his 2009 season in doubt.
Washington was tackled on the right leg during a rushing play on Sunday and walked to the sideline gingerly before being carted off the field. Head coach Rex Ryan said Washington will remain in Oakland and have surgery in the next couple days.
A report on NFL.com said that the surgery will likely end his season. In 2009, the fourth-year player out of Florida State has 331 yards on 72 carries and eight receptions for 83 yards.
