Florham Park, NJ (Sports Network) - The Jets placed running back Leon Washington on injured reserve on Monday, a day after the speedster broke his right leg in a 38-0 rout of the Raiders.
On his first carry of the game, Washington suffered a compound fracture of the tibia and fibula and had surgery immediately after the lopsided affair.
Team doctors expect a full recovery, though a timeline for his return has yet to be determined. Washington will remain in California to be observed before heading back east.
The fourth-year pro has never missed a game for New York. The change-of-pace back came into his own late last season and finished with 448 rushing yards and 355 receiving yards to go with eight total touchdowns.
In seven games this season, the Florida State product had amassed 462 yards from scrimmage. In 55 career games, Washington has 1,782 rushing yards, 969 receiving yards and 15 total TDs.
Washington will also be missed in the return game, having taken four kickoffs back for touchdowns during his career. He has a 25.5-yard average in kick returns for his career in addition to a 9.4-yard average in punt returns.
