Redskins OT Samuels not retiring yet

Sports Network | October 23, 2009

Ashburn, VA (Sports Network) - Washington Redskins offensive tackle Chris Samuels released a statement Friday countering an earlier report that said he was going to retire.

Samuels, the Redskins starting left tackle since 2000 and six-time Pro Bowl selection, suffered a stinger two weeks ago against Carolina and had to leave the game. A report said he was expected to announce his retirement shortly, but Samuels said he would not make a decision any time soon.

"I will continue to seek medical advice. I hope to see where I am physically over the next couple months," Samuels said. "At this time, I have not made a decision, but I love playing for the Redskins and hope to be back."

The third overall pick by Washington in the 2000 NFL Draft out of Alabama, Samuels became the team's starting left tackle right away and has remained in that position for nine-plus seasons. He has started in each of his 141 career appearances, missing only eight regular season games.
