Redskins' Cooley undergoes surgery

Sports Network | October 28, 2009

Ashburn, VA (Sports Network) - Washington tight end Chris Cooley underwent surgery on Wednesday to repair a fractured right ankle and is expected to recover in four weeks.

Cooley was hurt on the first play of the second quarter in Monday's 27-17 setback when his ankle seemed to get caught in the field on a pass route. He was later carted to the locker room.

Redskins head coach Jim Zorn originally indicated Tuesday that the injury would have taken six-to-eight weeks to heal and Cooley, the team's leading receiver with 29 catches this season, might have landed on injured reserve.
