It's a relatively quiet Monday night in the sports world, so most eyes will be on the Monday Night Football matchup between a pair of NFC East squads.

NFL: New York Giants vs. Washington Redskins, 8:30, ESPN: The Giants head down to DC to take on Robert Griffin III and the Redskins. New York snapped out of a slump with a convincing win over the Green Bay Packers last week, while the Skins have won two straight behind four touchdowns in back-to-back weeks by Griffin, who is playing the best ball of his already impressive rookie season. The playoffs are still very much an option for both teams, with New York leading the division and Washington hoping to get to .500 -- which would be just a game behind the Giants -- with a win.

NBA: Milwaukee Bucks vs. New Orleans Hornets, 8 p.m., NBATV

National Football League

New England Patriots vs. New York Jets - 8:20 p.m. (TV/Radio: NBC/98.5 FM): A Thanksgiving full of NFL action will be capped off with a battle between AFC East rivals. The Patriots have taken a three-game lead in the division thanks to a four-game winning streak, which started with a 29-26 victory over the Jets on Oct. 21. In order to extend that streak to five, the Patriots will need to get past the Jets without the services of tight end Rob Gronkowski, who suffered a broken forearm in last week's blowout win over the Indianapolis Colts.

Houston Texans vs. Detroit Lions - 12:30 p.m. (TV: CBS): The AFC's best team takes on one of the league's most disappointing clubs to open the Thanksgiving NFL slate. Two of the league's top six offenses will be featured in the game. The 4-6 Lions hope to put an end to an eight-game Turkey Day losing streak, but it won't be an easy task against the 9-1 Texans.

Washington Redskins vs. Dallas Cowboys - 4:25 p.m. (TV: FOX): Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III returns to his home state for the first time since finishing his college career at Baylor. Griffin and the 'Skins face a Cowboys team that can move into a tie for first place in the NFC East with a win paired with a New York Giants loss to the Green Bay Packers on Sunday.

TCU Horned Frogs vs. No. 16 Texas Longhorns - 7:30 p.m. (TV: ESPN).

Major League Baseball:

World Series Game 2, San Francisco Giants vs. Detroit Tigers - 7:30 p.m. (Fox, 850 AM): The San Francisco Giants dismantled the Detroit Tigers in Game 1, 8-3 thanks to three home runs by Pablo Sandoval. The Tigers hope to even the series out by sending pitcher Doug Fister to the hill against Giants pitcher Madison Bumgarner.

National Football League:

Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. Minnesota Vikings - 8 p.m. (NFL Network, 93.7 FM): The Vikings come into this game a half-game behind the Chicago Bears for the NFC North Division lead. Running back Adrian Peterson has run for 652 yards and three touchdowns this season. Although the Buccaneers have the third best rushing defense in the NFL, they have lost nine games in a row on the road.

College Football:

Clemson Tigers vs. Wake Forest Demon Deacons - 7:30 p.m. (ESPN): The Tigers are only a half game behind the Florida St. Seminoles for first place in the ACC Atlantic Division. Their offense ranks in the top 40 in both rushing and in passing so they should match up well with the Demon Deacons.

Major League Baseball

St. Louis Cardinals vs. San Francisco Giants - 8:07 p.m. (TV/Radio: FOX/850 AM): The Cardinals will try to avoid blowing a 3-1 series lead in Game 7 of the National League Championship Series. Kyle Lohse will get the ball for Mike Matheny's club against the Giants ace, Matt Cain. Both won 16 games during the regular season.

National Football League

Detroit Lions vs. Chicago Bears - 8:30 p.m. (TV/Radio: ESPN/93.7 FM): The Bears are seeking to climb the NFC North ladder with a win on Monday night at Soldier Field. Chicago has been terrific this year, sporting a 4-1 mark. Detroit, on the other hand, is 2-3 but is coming off a dramatic 26-23 win over the Philadelphia Eagles.

New England Patriots vs. New York Jets - 4:25 p.m. (TV/Radio: CBS/WBZ-FM 98.5): In a meeting between two teams in the gridlocked NFC East, 3-3 New England or 3-3 New York could earn a spot atop the division with a victory. Currently, Tom Brady and the Patriots boast the top offense in the NFL, but have struggled in close games on the road this season. This game, being in New England, could tilt the division lead in the Patriots' favor.

NBA

Boston Celtics vs. Philadelphia 76ers - 7:30 p.m. (TV/Radio: CSN/WEEI 93.7): In an exhibition match, the Celtics look to build off of their preseason win against the Brooklyn Nets with a rematch of last season's second round playoff matchup.

Outside of Boston

Baltimore Ravens at Houston Texans - 1:00 p.m. (TV: CBS) - Two of the top teams in the NFL face off this afternoon in Houston.

St. Louis Cardinals at San Francisco Giants - 8:00 p.m. (TV: TBS) - Game 6 of the National League Championship Series in San Francisco with the Cardinals holding a 3-2 advantage over the Giants.

San Francisco Giants vs. Cincinnati Reds - 1 p.m. (TV/Radio: TBS/850 AM): This is the first of two deciding Game 5s on Thursday. Pitcher Matt Cain hopes to lead the Giants to a clinching victory, completing a comeback from down 2-0. Mat Latos will be there to stop him. Maybe.

St. Louis Cardinals vs. Washington Nationals - 4 p.m. (TV/Radio: TBS/850 AM): The defending World Series champions hope to end the Nationals' impressive season in Game 4 with staff ace Kyle Lohse starting on three days rest. Washington stalwart Ross Detweiler will hope to sustain the Nats' dream year.

Baltimore Orioles vs. New York Yankees - 7:30 p.m. (TV/Radio: TBS/850 AM): The Yankees have the Orioles on the ropes after Wednesday's 12-inning victory. Phil Hughes takes the mound in Game 4 looking to put the Orioles away.

Detroit Tigers vs. Oakland Athletics - 9:30 p.m. (TV/Radio: TNT/850 AM): The Athletics came back from 3-1 in the bottom of the ninth to win 4-3 and force this Game 5. If the Athletics are going to win the series, they have to get past Tigers' pitcher Justin Verlander.

National Football League

Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Tennessee Titans - 8:20 p.m. (TV/Radio: NFL Network/93.7 FM): The Steelers travel to Nashville, trying to keep pace in the AFC North. They will have the advantage of facing Titans backup quarterback Matt Hasselbeck.

Andre Brown: New York Giants' Back Hopes For More Than 15 Minutes Of Fame

In the immediate aftermath of the New York Giants' 36-7 victory over the Carolina Panthers on Thursday night, life was unlike anything that Andre Brown had seen before. The Giants' substitute back had a career night against the Panthers, rushing for 113 yards on 20 and scoring two touchdowns.

Friday, it seemed like everyone wanted a piece of the 25-year-old from North Carolina State.

"Doing SportsCenter this morning, just being on NFL Network and doing the Fan Cam. I just think, as far as the media-wise, I've never seen anything like it - the tabloids and everybody calling me," Brown said Friday during an interview on 790 The Ticket in Miami with The Dan LeBatard Show. "I have so many text messages and missed phone calls. My mailbox is full. I had 132 voice messages. It's crazy. I just still remain humble about it. ... My journey has been so crazy."

That journey has included being drafted by the Giants in 2009, missing his rookie season because of injury, then being cut by the Giants, Denver Broncos, Indianapolis Colts, Panthers and Washington Redskins before re-surfacing with the Giants. He spent last season on the practice squad, then made the 53-man roster as a reserve entering this season.

"I think the low point would probably be me getting injured coming out of college my rookie year. I ruptured my Achilles; that set me back. You really can't think that you can come back from an Achilles in six to eight months, but it took me almost like a year and a half to get back feeling like myself," Brown said. "I had a couple low points, getting cut, then getting cut a second time, a third time, a fourth time."

The first cut is the deepest goes the saying, and Brown admitted the first cut by the Giants was the most difficult for him.

"They were the team that drafted me and that kind of hit home, but I'd really say it was a very humbling experience. But, to keep getting picked up by somebody else, a different team, it goes to say you have talent, but you just have to focus on it," Brown said. "Some of that stuff is overlooked and you can have all the talent in the world, but if you're not putting in hard work ... you can be right out of it."

VIDEO: NFL Honors Steve Sabol

The passing of NFL Films' Steve Sabol rocked the football world this week, and the NFL fittingly honored the man who made even bad football interesting for a long, long time. The video tribute seen on NFL Network before the Thursday night Giants-Panthers game was played before each of the early games on Sunday, focusing on what Sabol always did most: the highlights.

The video ended with one of Sabol's most memorable quotes, "Life is great, football is better." I'm sure seeing the tribute on the video boards with the rumbling of the powerful NFL Films soundtrack in the background at NFL stadiums around the country was powerful and moving.

I used to look forward to watching a different NFL Films tape each week on gameday, and can't even quantify the number of hours I'd spend watching team after team, year after year during marathons as a kid. Sabol will be missed by football fans everywhere, but his legacy and impact are definitely noticeable.

Greg Schiano Is A Bully, According To Mike Silver

There's lengthy article on Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Greg Schiano by Mike Silver of Yahoo! Sports, starting with Schiano's decision to rush the Giants on the final play of their Week 2 game. From there he goes into Schiano's reputation around the league and his days as head coach at Rutgers, and the information Silver presents is far from positive. More on Schiano and reactions from Bucs fans after the jump.

The basic case is this: While at Rutgers Schiano was extremely restrictive with and percieved to be disrespectful towards NFL scouts. There are a lot of unnamed sources willing to pile on Schiano, and comparisons to other resctrictive or hard-nosed coaches are brushed aside because apparently Schiano is some special manner of jerk, just the absolute jerkiest jerk the NCAA had ever seen. Silver quotes an AFC executive:

"[Schiano] tried so hard to be a hard ass and went out of his way to be rude. When you'd pass him in the hallway, you might say, 'Good morning,' and he'd look at you like you're a [expletive] idiot. A guy like him doesn't realize that probably half of us played the game at a really high level - it's completely condescending. He would go out of his way to make you feel as uncomfortable as he could."

All of this might be damning, but Bucs fans aren't likely to be concerned. SB Nation's Buccaneers blog, Bucs Nation, didn't seem too concerned:

What he did at Rutgers, he did for the sake of that program - not for the sake of pissing people off. And what he'll do now in Tampa Bay will be done for the sake of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers - not for the sake of Rutgers....Overall, this is just a bunch of meaningless whining. Fascinating whining, nonetheless, but meaningless. His players don't care how he treated scouts at Rutgers, and his team doesn't - or at least, it shouldn't. Schiano is here to build the Bucs, not play buddy-buddy with NFL scouts.

At the end of the day, results are the only thing that matters. If Schiano can put together a successful Bucs franchise, he's likely to see his detractors fade to irrelevance and his attitude become an aura. Bucs fans certainly hope that's how it turns out.

Your Thursday Night Football Pick For Week Three

A healthy dose of real life has prevented me from getting my entire NFL picks column up by now. . .and, when one considers that I had what was probably the worst week of picking games that I've had since I started doing this for our humble little website here, that might be for the best. But, I will soldier on in any event, and bring you the pick for tonight's NFL contest, with the number once again courtesy of our friends at OddsShark.

After the jump, of course.

New York Giants at Carolina Panthers (-2.5)

The Giants had a very interesting game last week against Tampa Bay, with Eli Manning throwing three first-half interceptions before recovering to throw three touchdown passes and racking up 510 passing yards for the afternoon. Manning's second-half turnaround led the Giants to a furious comeback over the Buccaneers, 41-34.

The Panthers remembered that they were pretty good at running the football, and a pretty decent offensive team overall, as they rushed for 219 yards in a 35-27 victory over the New Orleans Saints at home.

Both of these teams are 1-1. . .you know, like most of the rest of the National Football League. . .and this is a very intriguing match-up. Both of these teams have high-flying offenses. Eli Manning leads the defending Super Bowl Champions, while the Panthers are paced by Cam Newton, Steve Smith, and the two-headed rushing monster of DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart. Manning will be without a couple of key weapons in this one, however, as receiver Hakeem Nicks and running back Ahmad Bradshaw will miss this game with injuries.

That might just be the advantage that the Panthers need to win at home. With the injuries to Nicks and Bradshaw, coupled with the fact that this is the Giants. . .meaning they don't really kick into high gear until early November or so. . .look for Carolina to win a closely contested battle at Bank of America Stadium.
