VIDEO: Mike Cammalleri Swings Stick At Nino Niederreiter, Will Likely Start New Season In Press Box

Mike Cammalleri was a vital cog in the Canadiens 2010 playoff run, but if NHL precedent means anything, it looks like they'll be without him when the new season opens later this week. In tonight's preseason contest between the Habs and the New York Islanders, Cammalleri snapped.

Angered about an earlier hit, he swung his stick at the face of Isles prospect Nino Niederreiter before stalking him a bit and hacking at his calf. See for yourself (and sorry about the French).

Niederreiter didn't return, but Katie Strang of Newsday reports that while he's sore, he's just down with a bruised calf and he'll be alright.

You've got to expect that Cammalleri, who was thrown out of the game for the incident, will be benched by the league for a few games, if only for the dangerous swing at Niederreiter's face.
