The good news: Kings defenseman Drew Doughty does not have a concussion. The bad news: he's still going on injured reserve after taking a huge hit from Philadelphia Flyers forward Zac Rinaldo on Saturday night.
Doughty came across the blue line with the puck during the first shift of Saturday's Kings vs. Flyers game at Wells Fargo Center when Rinaldo lined him up and blasted him with a clean shoulder-to-shoulder hit. Doughty didn't play much more after the hit, ultimately retiring to the locker room a few minutes later.
The Kings announced on Sunday that Doughty was placed on IR, and it's expected he'll miss at least a week of action. It's rumored to be a shoulder injury, but all we know for sure is that it's an "upper-body" ailment that's not related to the head.
As for Rinaldo, it's unlikely he faces any further discipline for the hit, which video shows was clean despite at first appearing as though he left his feet prior to the hit. When asked about the hit, Rinaldo said Doughty "came across the trolley tracks."
