Ryan Smyth has impeccable timing, scoring the game-winning goal against the Predators on the same night in which the Oilers distributed 10,000 bobbleheads featuring his likeness. It was the second of three unanswered goals for the Oilers, who were shut out in the opening two periods before winning 3-1. Smyth wasn't done, either, later assisting on Ryan Jones' empty-netter in the final minute.
Sergei Kostitsyn put the Predators on the board in the second period, but Taylor Hall tied the game for Edmonton five and a half minutes into the final period, two minutes before Smyth's game-winner. Shawn Horcoff assisted on all three of the Oilers' goals, earning Smyth's praise after the game. From Faceoff.com:
"Horc led the charge. He won the draw on Hall's goal, made the excellent pass to me and the one to Jonesy. He's a true leader, a leader by example," said Smyth.
Oilers goalie Nikolai Khabibulin had a relatively easy night, as the Predators managed just 12 shots on goal. Predators goalie Pekka Rinne, on the other hand, saw exactly twice as many shots.
The Oilers improved to 2-1-1 with the win, while the Predators fell to 2-2-1, losing their first road game of the year.
