The Washington Capitals remained undefeated on the year with a convincing 5-2 win over the Philadelphia Flyers on Thursday night. Alex Ovechkin found the net twice in the game, powering Washington to the easy win. The two goals were his second and third of the year.
The Flyers took the lead in the first period, breaking the scoreless tie on Claude Giroux's goal. But Washington answered back to close the frame, scoring twice in the final two minutes to take the lead. It was a lead the Capitals would never surrender.
After a scoreless second period, Washington exploded again in the third, scoring three goals in just over two minutes to put the Flyers away. Roman Hamrlik, Ovechkin and Joel Ward scored in quick succession to give the Caps a four-goal lead. Sean Couturier scored just before the final horn for the Flyers.
