Chris Pronger Out For The Season With Post-Concussion Syndrome

Chris Pronger is out for the season after being diagnosed with severe post-concussion syndrome.

Philadelphia Flyers captain Chris Pronger will miss the rest of the season after being diagnosed with severe post-concussion syndrome, the team announced on Thursday. Pronger had been out for nearly a month with a somewhat mysterious ailment before the decision was made to keep him out for the year. The defenseman visited a concussion specialist -- the same one who treated Sidney Crosby -- on Wednesday before the Flyers announced the decision to keep him out for the rest of the season.

Over at Broad Street Hockey, Flyers fans are left with more questions than answers.

It's been at least an hour since the news came out as of this writing, and I still have that sinking pit feeling in my stomach. It's just a total blow to the gut, even if we kind of all knew this was a possibility anyway. I don't think we assumed it'd become this bad this quick, and now we have to deal with the reality. It absolutely sucks in every single way.

It's unclear what's next for Pronger as he recovers from his injuries. His ability to continue playing long-term is in question, though nobody knows how he'll respond as he deals with the lingering effects of a severe concussion.
