World Junior Hockey Championship: Canada, USA Begin Tournament Monday

The 2012 World Junior Hockey Championship kicks off Monday, with Canada set to face off against Finland and the United States slated to match up with Denmark.

The 2012 World Junior Hockey Championship is here, and both Canada and the United States kick off the tournament on Monday, part of the four-game schedule on the first day of IIHF's under-20 world championship tournament.

Edmonton hosts Group B action while Calgary hosts Group A action. Here's the full schedule for Day 1:

3:30 p.m. ET: Finland vs. Canada (Group B, Edmonton)

5:30 p.m. ET: Latvia vs. Sweden (Group A, Calgary)

8 p.m. ET: Denmark vs. United States (Group B, Edmonton)

10 p.m. ET: Switzerland vs. Russia (Group A, Calgary)

NHL.com will live stream the USA game and the Switzerland vs. Russia game. NHL Network in the United States will also provide a live broadcast of Canada vs. Finland and Denmark vs. USA.

Each of the 10 teams in the tournament play four games in the preliminary round, which continues through December 31. The top three teams in each group move on to the playoff round, with the two top-seeded teams gaining byes into the semifinal game. Semifinal winners move to the gold medal game, played January 5, while losers move to the bronze medal game played the same day.
