Winter Classic 2012: Weather Forecast For January 2 Now Includes Chance Of Snow Showers

NHL.com's Dan Rosen reported in a video on Tuesday afternoon from Citizens Bank Park that according to Don Renzulli of the league's events department, the forecast for Winter Classic game day was "clear." Perhaps they have more information at their fingertips than Weather.com makes public six days early, or perhaps things have just altered since that report, but in any event, there's a bit of a discrepancy.

According to Weather.com, there's now a chance of snow showers next Monday in Philadelphia.

Obviously, we'd rather have snow than any other form of precipitation. The Zamboni can clear snow -- that's actually its main function. Rain, however, presents a problem in terms of ice quality and player safety, not to mention the awful glare that reflected off the ice last year at Pittsburgh's Heinz Field, making a made for TV event a little more difficult to watch on TV.

But the forecast has consistently improved each day so far this week, falling from a 60 percent chance of rain to a 30 percent chance to a chance of rain and snow showers. We'll keep an eye on it.
