Should The Nashville Predators Claim Defenseman Sheldon Souray?

2Sheldon Souray is on re-entry waivers and it's expected that somebody will claim him between now and Monday afternoon when the waiver period ends. Could one of the teams that places a claim be the Nashville Predators? Dirk Hoag at SB Nation's On The Forecheck raised the question.

After a contentious dispute with Oilers management, Souray was placed in the AHL this season, but not with the Oilers' affiliate in Oklahoma City, but rather the Hershey Bears, in order to keep him away from their own prospects. By all accounts, Souray is a well-respected, good team guy, and he's played in 3 NHL All-Star Games.

He's good a monster shot from the point and plays the left side, where the Preds have really needed some more offensive punch, particularly on the power play.

The team that claims Souray, if a team does, will only be on the hook for half of his $5.4 million salary. The Edmonton Oilers would pay the other half.
