Capitals Vs. Penguins: Alex Ovechkin Scores Lone Goal In Washington's Win

Is it possible that Alex Ovechkin is out of his big, nasty scoring drought?

That was the lone rival goal on Monday rival night as the rival Penguins fell to the rival Capitals on rival network Versus. Rival. At least, that's what I took out of the telecast. Hey guys, WE GET IT. They're rivals... or something.

Seriously, though, it was a pretty slow affair between the two clubs. That's understandable, said SB Nation's Japers Rink.

The style of tonight's game wasn't too difficult to predict before the opening face-off. On one hand you had a Caps team playing on back-to-back days at the end of a five-game cross-country road trip and still missing vital players, including Mike Green.  On the other hand, Pittsburgh was also playing on back-to-back days and missing their two superstars - Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin - as well as a host of other players due to injury or trade.

Just because the contest was low scoring, though, doesn't mean that it wasn't entertaining. Just seconds before Ovechkin's cannon got Washington on the board, Michal Neuvirth made a gorgeous breakaway stop on Jordan Staal. It was one of his 39 saves on the evening.

Ovechkin's goal was his seventh point in six games. The Capitals have taken seven straight wins from the Pens in Pittsburgh, whether that's at Mellon Arena, Heinz Field or CONSOL Energy Center.
