Ray Emery Clears Waivers; Ducks Assign Him To AHL's Syracuse Crunch

Ray Emery cleared waivers at 12 p.m. Eastern Tuesday and will be assigned to the Syracuse Crunch of the American Hockey League, according to several reports.

It's just the next step in Emery's pretty improbably road back to the NHL. A year ago, he left the Philadelphia Flyers lineup with avascular necrosis, the same bone disease that forced baseball and football great Bo Jackson into retirement.

He's said publicly that he'd rather play hockey now than walk later, but hopefully he'll be able to do both. It'll be interesting to see where he ends up in the Ducks organization now as he works his way back to NHL speed. Will he spend just a few weeks with the Crunch before being called up to the big club?

The Ducks are in the thick of the playoff race out West and Emery has to love the fact that now he's involved in that, too.
