Kings Vs. Red Wings: Kings Get Third Win Over Red Wings With 2-1 Victory

Kings Vs. Red Wings: Los Angeles Gets Third Win Over Red Wings With Two Second Period Goals

In the three previous matchups between these two teams, there was a minimum of five goals scored between the teams. On Wednesday night, only three were scored and it only took two to win. Dustin Brown and Anze Kopitar each scored for the Kings to give them a 2-1 victory over the Red Wings. 

The Red Wings opened the scoring with a Darren Helm goal 5:57 into the first period. His goal was assisted by Justin Abdelkader and Kris Draper. That was the only goal that the Red Wings could manage on Los Angeles goaltender Jonathan Quick. Quick made 28 saves on 29 shots in the winning effort for the Kings. 

The Los Angeles Kings couldn't find their offensive flow in the first period, being outshot 11-3. The Kings were able to find the net in the second and third periods, outshooting the Red Wings 23-18 in the final two periods. Jimmy Howard made 24 saves in the losing effort for the Red Wings. 

The Red Wings will face the Edmonton Oilers while the Kings will take on the Columbus Blue Jackets on Friday night. 


Kings Vs. Red Wings Score: Two Kings Goals Give Them 2-1 Lead After Two Periods

After struggling to find any offensive flow in the first period, the Los Angeles Kings have two goals in the second period to give them a 2-1 lead after two periods in Detroit. Anze Kopitar scored his fourth goal against the Red Wings this season, 7:50 into the second period, to tie the game at one. His goal was assisted by Dustin Penner and Justin Williams. Dustin Brown broke the tie on the powerplay seven minutes later. Alec Martinex had the lone assist on the Brown goal. 

After being outshot 11-3 in the first period, the Kings outshot the Red Wings 14-10 in the second period and are now only being outshot 21-17 through two periods in the game. Dustin Penner leads all players in the game with four shots on goal and has a total of six attempted shots, which is tied with Detroit's Nicklas Lidstrom. 

Jonathan Quick stopped all ten shots in the second period and now has 20 saves on 21 shots while Detroit's Jimmy Howard has fifteen saves on seventeen shots through two periods. 


Kings Vs. Red Wings Score: Darren Helm Scores Lone Goal To Give Red Wings 1-0 Lead

Through the three games between these two teams this season, there has been a minimum of five combined goals in each of the games. Through one period tonight, there has only been one goal and that has come off the stick of Darren Helm. Helm scored at the six minute mark of the first period to give the Red Wings a 1-0 lead after twenty minutes. His goal was assisted by Justin Abdelkader and Kris Draper. 

The Red Wings are controlling the offense in the first period. Along with the 1-0 lead on the scoreboard, they are outshooting the Kings 11-3 through the first period. Nicklas Lidstrom leads the Red Wings with three shots in the period while three other players has two shots on goal. For the Kings, only three players have registered a shot. The Red Wings have a total of 21 shots toward the net, which is a combined total of the shots on goal, blocked shots, and missed shots, while the Kings only have eight shots toward the net. 

Jimmy Howard has made all three saves that has come his way while Jonathan Quick has ten saves on eleven shots tonight. If previous matchups this season have shown anything though, its that there should be more offense in this game tonight. 


Kings Vs. Red Wings: Los Angeles Tries To Keep Afloat In Western Conference

The Detroit Red Wings are looking for a split of the season series against the Los Angeles Kings in Detroit. The Red Wings and Kings met 10 days ago which saw the Red Wings get out to a 7-1 lead before defeating the Kings 7-4 on February 28th. The Kings are hanging on to the eighth spot in the Western Conference as they are tied with the Minnesota Wild at 77 points and the Nashville Predators are one point behind and the Anaheim Ducks are two points behind. 

The Kings are 7-1-3 in their last 11 road games and have beaten the Red Wings once already this season at the Joe Louis Arena. Anze Kopitar has had a great season against the Red Wings with three goals and three assists in three games this season. Jonathan Quick is expected to get the start against the Red Wings and is 4-6 with a 3.07 goals against average and .907 save percentage in his career against the Red Wings. 

On the Detroit side of the puck, the Red Wings have made their way to the top of the Central Division with a six point lead over the Chicago Blackhawks. The Red Wings have struggled at home as of late, going 7-9-2 in their last eighteen games at home. Jimmy Howard will be in net for the Red Wings, going 1-1 with a 4.50 goals against average and .862 save percentage this season against the Kings.
