We kind of expected Henrik Zetterberg to sit for at least the first game of the Red Wings opening-round series against the Phoenix Coyotes, and on Tuesday morning at practice, we learned that would be the case.
Zetterberg arrived at Joe Louis Arena on Tuesday wearing a brace on his knee and ruled himself out for the series opener Wednesday night. He isn't sure what his status will be for Game 2 on Saturday afternoon.
Some Wings fans seem confident that they can beat the Coyotes even without Zetterberg, but the fact is simple: without him, the Red Wings are not the same team, and the gap between Detroit and Phoenix is all the more smaller. He's missed a few games down the stretch with a knee injury suffered last Wednesday against Carolina.
Zetterberg is a playoff animal, and without him, Detroit is a lot easier to match up against. For more on the injury, be sure to check in with Winging It In Motown.
