VIDEO: Alex Semin Scores Winner In Overtime, Gets Body Slammed By Alex Ovechkin

Alex Semin scored the game-winning goal on a beautiful one-time shot in overtime of Game 1 between the Washington Capitals and New York Rangers on Wednesday night.

While he expected some sort of fun celebration after scoring such a big goal, he likely didn't expect to be body slammed by one of his buddies, Alex Ovechkin.

Wait for the 40-second mark of this video, via CSN Washington.

The goal was Semin's first in the playoffs since 2009, and it ended a stretch of 14 playoff games without a goal. He's often stuck with the reputation of being a bit of scourge, but Bruce Boudreau didn't shy away from talking about the importance of his role following the game.

Via the Washington Times:

Coach Bruce Boudreau said he could sense that Semin wanted this game - and to contribute - badly. It's not a luxury for him to score, either.

"For our team, we're not getting anywhere without Alex Semin scoring," Boudreau said. "We need him to go to create that other offensive threat."

Earlier in the week, right wing Mike Knuble agreed to the notion that a lot of Semin's enigmatic personality can be forgiven because he's a game breaker.

"The talent on the ice is indisputable," Knuble said.

I prefer to call guys like Semin "sphinx-like," but whatever. You get the point. Semin is important -- so important that his teammates don't have a problem slamming him into the ice like it's WrestleMania. Or something like that.
