Predators Vs. Canucks Final Score: Roberto Luongo Shuts Out Nashville, 1-0

In a battle of goaltenders between the Nashville Predators and the Vancouver Canucks, Roberto Luongo gained the upper hand for the Canucks in their 1-0 victory to open the second round of the 2011 NHL Playoffs. Luongo shut out the Predators with his 20 stops.

However, Nashville's Pekka Rinne was no slouch in the net. For the first two periods, he faced an onslaught of 26 shots by the Canucks Unfortunately for him, Rinne allowed a Chris Higgins goal during the middle of the second period. In the third period, Rinne's teammates were able to hold the Canucks to just four shots, while his team managed to get nine shots on Luongo. Rinne finished with 29 saves and was named the game's first star.

The series continues on Saturday, April 30 in Vancouver. Which Vezina Trophy candidate will come out on top this time?

Predators Vs. Canucks Score: Roberto Luongo, Pekka Rinne Keep Game Scoreless After 1st Period

This second round series between the Nashville Predators and the Vancouver Canucks will likely come down to the goalie who plays a better game. Both the Canucks' Roberto Luongo and the Predators' Pekka Rinne are finalists for the Vezina Trophy in 2011, and both played like it in the first period, leading to a scoreless tie after the first period.

Luongo is coming off a series with the Chicago Blackhawks in which he got pulled in favor of Corey Schneider for a couple of games. Schneider then went down with an injury in Game 6. He only faced five shots from the Predators and stopped all of them.

The Canucks were able to fire off 16 shots on Pekka Rinne, but he was a brick wall in front of the net.

The Predators will have a power play for 90 seconds at the start of the second period, as Christian Ehrhoff was called for a hooking penalty.

2011 NHL Playoffs, Predators Vs. Canucks: Teams Kick Off Round Two Thursday Night

After their pulse-pounding, dramatic win in overtime of Game 7 against the Chicago Blackhawks, the Vancouver Canucks have no time to rest as they prepare to kick off the second round of the 2011 NHL playoffs against the Nashville Predators.

That series kicks off less than 48 hours after the Game 7 victory on Thursday night at 9 p.m. ET. The top-seeded Canucks will obviously be the hosts of Games 1 and 2 in the Conference Semifinal series, and while a lot of Preds fans are just excited to be beyond the first round for the first time in franchise history, the team certainly isn't happy with the way things have gone.

It's going to be a battle of strengths in this series. There's the defensive-minded Canucks against the high-flying offensive powerhouse that the Sedin twins and the Canucks have on board in Vancouver. Chicago shut down the Sedin's for a good chunk of that first round series, and if that can happen again, the Predators have more than just a chance against the Canucks.
