Red Wings Vs. Sharks Score: Joe Pavelski Forces Overtime With Third Period Goal

We're headed to overtime in Game 1 of the NHL playoff series between the Detroit Red Wings and San Jose Sharks. The Red Wings entered the third period clinging to a 1-0 lead after Nicklas Lidstrom's first period goal, but the Sharks had been knocking at the doorstep all game long. When the dam finally broke, the Red Wings were unable to answer again and the third period ended with the score tied at one.

After Todd Bertuzzi was sent to the box for boarding midway through the period, Joe Pavelski took advantage, beating Jimmy Howard to level the score at one. Pavelski swatted a rebound out of the air and Howard was unable to recover as San Jose broke the scoreless drought and prevented the shutout. Joe Thornton and Dan Boyle were credited with the assists.

The Sharks had plenty of chances with time winding down, but were unable to find the net and take home the regulation win. When a last-gasp chance resulted in a Detroit clearance, the final horn sounded, ensuring overtime in Game 1.
