PHOTO: President Obama Tells Us About Osama Bin Laden... While Staring At Capitals Fan

Stay connected with SB Nation

It could go down as the defining moment of Barack Obama's presidency: He steps to the podium at the White House on Sunday night and tells us all that Osama Bin Laden is dead. We've killed him. The longest manhunt in the history of our nation is over. Heady stuff, right?

As the President said those words, what exactly was he fixated on? Well, besides the teleprompter of course, it appears he was staring at a Washington Capitals fan.

A Capitals fan was also shown standing along a fence outside the White House on MSNBC during their coverage on Sunday night, and Ed Henry of CNN tweeted that he was wearing a red polo because he was at the Capitals vs. Lightning Game 2 just before the news broke.

The Capitals may have lost on Sunday, but when news like this strikes, we're quickly reminded where hockey falls in the great scheme of things. For those in D.C., it's pretty clear that the night won't be remembered for a bad OT loss -- it'll be remembered for a significant night in U.S. history.
