On the subject of Sean Avery's support of gay marriage, someone decided to share the following insight from the Twitter account of Uptown Sports Management, an outfit that manages about 11 current NHL players, none of whom is Avery. Pretty strange turn for the Twitter arm of the Uptown company -- until now, it's pretty much just been used to harmlessly congratulate its clients for doing stuff.
Very sad to read Sean Avery's misguided support of same-gender "marriage". Legal or not, it will always be wrong.
When pro athletes say ignorant and unacceptable things on Twitter, they catch hell at worst and the why-do-we-care-what-athletes-think thing at best.
So it will be interesting to see if any reaction makes its way to this sports agency for saying something worse than Rashard Mendenhall's Osama bin Laden rant. At least with Mendenhall, it wasn't entirely clear exactly what he was so worked up about, and the gist of his message besides the conspiracy theory stuff seemed to be a call for everybody to hug each other or something; here, there's no mistaking the outright hate for a specific group of people.
Mendenhall faced the consequences of saying something offensive by losing out on an endorsement deal. What's the worst that could happen to Uptown here?
