The Washington Capitals' front office is quite busy Friday afternoon. Shortly after trading away goaltender Semyon Varlamov for high draft picks, the Caps have engineered two more deals. Firstly, they've signed right-winger Joel Ward. SportsNet's Nick Kypreos tweets:
#NHL news. Joel Ward #Predators play-off star is now a member of the Washington #Capitals. 4 yrs totalling 12M.
And secondly, the Caps have acquired defenseman Roman Hamrlik, most recently withe the Montreal Canadiens.
Our Nashville Predators blog, On The Forecheck, offers some thoughts on Joel Ward as he moves elsewhere:
Joel Ward hit the biggest jackpot, heading to Washington for 4 years and $12 million. He should fit the defensive style of play that Bruce Boudreau introduced there last season, while still adding some offensive punch. It's a great opportunity for Wardo, a late bloomer who earned every bit of this payday.
