Russian Hockey Players Killed In Plane Crash; Majority Of KHL Team Feared Dead

On Wednesday, multiple news agencies are reporting that a passenger plane in which a KHL team was traveling has crashed. The crash site, reported to be approximately 500 meters from the runway, is near the Russian city of Yaroslavl. Of 37 passengers, at least 34 have been reported dead, with one report placing the toll at 36

The KHL, or Kontinental Hockey League, is the strongest and most well-known hockey league in Europe. The team in question is the KHL's Lokomotiv Yaroslavl; the city of Yaroslavl is located approximately 250 kilometers (160 miles) northeast of Moscow.

Further details are scarce at this time; we'll update this StoryStream as soon as more details are made available. This is a terribly frightening and tragic story, and our thoughts are with the friends and families of the deceased, the survivors, and KHL fans throughout Russia.
