The discrepancy between the Washington Capitals home and road records is alarming. At Verizon Center, the Caps are one of the league's best teams as their 17 home wins are the most in the Eastern Conference. Meanwhile, only four teams have less than the Caps' seven road wins.
After a 3-0 loss to the New York Islanders Tuesday to close out a four-game homestand, Washington heads back onto the road starting Wednesday against the Montreal Canadiens. The trip continues to Carolina Friday and Pittsburgh Sunday. Tuesday did not provide any momentum for Washington; the Caps were shutout for the first time this season and they mustered only 17 shots on goal.
The effort that was there throughout the week did not manifest itself for the Caps, ending their extended stay at Verizon Center on a low note. Yet, there is no time to dwell on it.
"It’s a chance to get right back at it," Brooks Laich. "Same with what [the Islanders] went through. They played last night and lost and came in here a hungry team. For us, we will get on the plane tonight, travel [to Montreal] and get back at it tomorrow."
