As if ignoring a plane crash that killed an entire hockey team wasn't enough evidence, Deadspin broke down an entire week of ESPN SportsCenter programming and found that they really, truly do not care about hockey.
Coverage of the NHL totaled just 13 and a half minutes between January 7 and January 18, just 2.4 percent of the total content on the program. Non-Pittsburgh Penguins hockey coverage totaled just 8.5 minutes. They spent 30 minutes on just Tim Tebow, let alone the entire NFL. But that's understandable, I guess. It's the NFL playoffs, and football is king.
Baseball has been completely off the map for at least two months now. There's no doubt hockey is more newsworthy right now, yet coverage of MLB totaled 16.75 minutes, three more than hockey.

And in other news...
… leading scientists have published a paper confirming that yes, the earth is round.
Seriously, ESPN’s bias isn’t hard to figure out. They’ve spent billions of dollars on rights fees for the other three major team sports, as well as on college sports, poker tournaments, and so on. SportsCenter just follows the money. Sucks for the sports they haven’t invested in, as well as the overall concept of “fairness”; but thankfully we no longer live in an age where we have to depend on broadcast television for our sports coverage.

Blame the NHL
Why would ESPN talk about the NHL when they dont have any games played on there network? ESPN made an offer for TV rights this past contract and the NHL went with NBC Sports (VS.) with the magority of games played on local FOX sports stations. So you can’t blame them for not covering a sport that doesnt benefit them. Besides what they do show is GARBAGE, NHL network does a great job and NBC Sports is decent besides McGuire creeping out everyone.

NHL Network renders their hockey coverage redundant.
Hockey fans can go straight to NHL Network now and since ESPN doesn’t cover hockey worth a damn hockey fans don’t watch it anymore. It makes no sense for ESPN to alienate their core audience by showing lots of hockey. The hockey audience is not that big. They’ll lose twice as many fans of other sports than they’ll gain of hockey fans if they concentrate more on hockey.
