In the final challenge of the 2012 NHL Skills Competition, Team Alfredsson dominated the elimination shootout to walk away with a 21-12 win on Saturday night.
Henrik Lundqvist and Carey Price, coming in cold, stoned the first three attempts of the shootout. But the floodgates quickly opened, as Steven Stamkos, Evgeni Malkin, and John Tavares scored on three consecutive attempts. Malkin put an incredible move on Lundqvist, stopping the puck and sliding it right through the wickets. Jason Spezza finished the first round with an incredible move of his own, deking Price out of his pads and sliding it by with a forehand.
The second round was highlighted by a Daniel Alfredsson goal, as he continued to put on a show in front of the hometown fans. The All-Star captain and leader of the Senators beat Tim Thomas over the stick side to bring the crowd alive. Jarome Iginla was the only All-Star to advance for Team Chara, as Brian Elliott stopped three of four attempts.
Team Alfredsson continued to pull away in the third round, as Jason Pominville and Kris Letang beat Jimmy Howard to make it 17-11. Jonathan Quick put on a show in goal for Team Alfredsson, making an incredible save on Joffrey Lupul.
In the final round, Steven Stamkos, the league's leading scorer, put on the move of the shootout with a spin across the front of Carey Price and a low shot for his second straight shootout goal. Henrik Lundqvist would clinch it for Team Alfredsson one shot later, stuffing Kimmo Timonen to seal the victory. With the team victory locked up, Stamkos would be the last man standing to win the individual competition.
