It's never good when a hockey player hits somebody and the first reaction of the TV guys is, "That's gonna be a suspension!" But that's exactly what happened when Dan Carcillo hit Tom Gilbert of the Edmonton Oilers on Monday night.
And by "hit Tom Gilbert," we mean "threw his body into the glass at approximately 1,000 miles per hour."
Carcillo was given a five minute major and a game misconduct for the hit, and as the video shows, he was also hurt on the play when Gilbert bounced off the boards and into his left knee. Gilbert also failed to return to the hockey game after the hit, but who knows which guy got the worst of the collision.
The Oilers trailed 1-0 at the time of the hit. By the time the five minute major to Carcillo had expired, Edmonton had a 2-1 lead. They'd go on to win the game 4-3.
