The Columbus Blue Jackets and John Davidson are close to an agreement which would make him the Blue Jackets' president of hockey operations.
John Davidson is close to an agreement with the Columbus Blue Jackets, which would make him the president of hockey operations, according to a report from The Columbus Dispatch.
Davidson spent the last seven years as the president of hockey operations with the St. Louis Blues. He accepted a buyout and stepped down from his position with St. Louis in late September. According to the Columbus Dispatch report, he would work directly under Blue Jackets majority owner John McConnell. That would give Davidson control over the hockey operations department, ahead of current general manager Chris MacFarland.
This isn't the first time Davidson and the Blue Jackets have had discussions. Davidson interviewed with with Columbus in May, but the two sides did not strike a deal. In addition to serving as president of hockey operations in St. Louis, Davidson has also been around the NHL as a player and broadcaster. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2009.
