AHL schedule 2012: Falcons take on Admirals in Sunday slate

Matt Kartozian-US PRESSWIRE

Ten teams take to the ice in the AHL on Sunday.

The Northeast Division-leading Springfield Falcons will try for their eighth win in nine games when they host the Norfolk Admirals at 5 p.m. on Sunday. Goalie Curtis McElhinney and the Falcons are the best in the Eastern Conference at goals allowed, and haven't lost in their last six games.

In other action, Connecticut will travel to Bridgeport for a 3:05 p.m. game. The Tigers are 7-3 and have won two straight, and the Whale is 4-5 with back-to-back losses. Connecticut's Kris Newbury is among the league leaders in points with 14 -- and penalty minutes with 46.

Elsewhere in the Eastern Conference, Worcester takes on Providence. The P-Bears, 4-5, have struggled for offense this season, with just 20 goals in nine games, but have won their last two. Worcester, meanwhile, sits one game back of Manchester for the Atlantic Division lead at 5-4.

The high-scoring Portland Pirates travel to Pennsylvania to face Hershey. Portland, 4-4-1, is one of the conference's highest scoring teams at 37 goals in just nine games. But the Pirates have allowed 35 goals in that same span. The Bears are 5-4-1.

Out west, Texas and Houston square off in the Lone Star State. The Stars, mired in a three-game losing streak, are just 3-6 and have scored only 17 times on the season. Houston is 5-4-1-2 but is winless in its last three games.
