KHL standings 2012: Dynamo Moscow tops league

Paul Bereswill

There are tight races at the top of the standings in both conferences.

At the midpoint of the 2012-13 KHL regular season, Dynamo Moscow leads the Western Conference, while Traktor Chelyabinsk sits atop the Eastern. Both teams lead their respective divisions as well.

Eight teams in each division make the playoffs, so there is still a lot to be sorted out over the second half of the season.

Several KHL teams have received a boost from NHL players still waiting on a resolution to the lockout. Washington Capitals star Alex Ovechkin has helped Dynamo Moscow to its first place perch. Zdeno Chara, Pavel Datsyuk, Evgeni Malkin and Ilya Kovalchuk are just some of the NHL stars playing in the Russia-based league.
