NHL lockout 2012: Games through Dec. 30 officially canceled

Bruce Bennett

The NHL has officially canceled games through Dec. 30.

The National Hockey League announced Monday that regular-season games through Dec. 30 have been canceled, as the Players Association and the league have yet to come to terms on a new Collective Bargaining Agreement.

This news comes on top of the previous reports of further failed negotiations between the players and the owners. Despite initial optimism, the negotiations fell apart after the league rejected the NHL Players Association's latest proposal.

The NHL had previously canceled the 2013 All Star Game, which was to take place Jan. 27 in Columbus, Ohio, and the 2013 Winter Classic, which slated the Detroit Red Wings and Toronto Maple Leafs at Michigan Stadium. Games had previously been canceled through Dec. 14. Most teams have now lost around 35 of their originally-scheduled 82 games.

The NHL's official statement confirms: 526 games have now been canceled, or 42.8 percent of the season. The lockout is presently in its 86th day.
