Johnny Boychuk Signs 3-Year Contract Extension With Boston Bruins

Bruins extend 28-year-old defenseman Johnny Boychuk, who is currently enjoying a very solid season.

Feb 14, 2012 - Johnny Boychuk has reportedly signed a three-year extension with the Boston Bruins that will pay him an average of $3.36 million per year. Boychuk, 28, is enjoying a career year, posting a +/- of 23. The defenseman also has three goals and seven assists.

Since being traded in June 2008, Boychuk has been a solid, if unspectacular, blue-liner. In 172 games with the Bruins, he has 11 goals, 30 assists and a +48 rating. He also contributed to the Bruins' Stanley Cup-winning campaing last year, although he was involved in the incident that resulted in Mason Raymond's vertebrae compression fracture.

The news of Boychuk's re-signing does not appear to have gone over especially well with Bruins fans. At Stanley Cup of Chowder there are mostly cries of disapproval.
