Mike Knuble Won't Be Traded By Washington Capitals, According To GM

Mike Knuble hasn't been happy with his playing time lately, and he's vented to the media about his status with the Washington Capitals. He's intimated that he'd be interested in a trade if he's not going to get the opportunity to play for Dale Hunter, but according to Caps general manager George McPhee, that won't be happening.

Via the Washington Times:

The Caps' general manager said Thursday: "We have no interest in trading" Knuble. He also expects the 39-year-old veteran to be in the lineup this weekend.

Knuble was benched by Hunter for his lack of scoring output and his poor plus-minus in recent games, but for a guy who's evolved into a defensive forward, that's exactly the kind of numbers you'd expect. Defensive players don't have strong plus-minus numbers, nor do they score. Knuble has been a valuable leader for the Capitals and he still fills an important defensive role on the team, even at age 39.
