Tuomo Ruutu Signs Contract Extension With Carolina Hurricanes, Halting Trade Deadline Rumors

Tuomo Ruutu and Carolina Hurricanes general manager Jim Rutherford took a few weeks to make a decision. Utlimately, they decided they'd like to stay together. It's a four-year contract extension for Ruutu, according to the Raleigh News & Observer. How much will he earn?

Ruutu would have been one of the prizes of the market at the trade deadline, and with the Canes so far out of the playoff picture, it seemed like a sure bet that they'd sell on the 29-year-old forward. But as he did with defenseman Tim Gleason, Rutherford opted to hold on to a valuable asset instead of trading it away for the questionable return of prospects and draft picks.
