Mike Commodore will have another chance to wear No. 64 this season, as he's been traded to the Tampa Bay Lightning on deadline day for a conditional seventh-round pick.
Mike Commodore has been traded to the Tampa Bay Lightning on 2012 NHL Trade Deadline day. The Detroit Red Wings sent the 32-year-old defenseman to Steve Yzerman's club in exchange for a conditional seventh-round pick.
It's the second deal of the last week between these two clubs after the Bolts flipped Kyle Quincey to the Red Wings in exchange for a first-round pick. By trading Commodore and freeing up a spot on defense, the Red Wings could be preparing for another move at the deadline. It's wait and see in that department.
The Lightning add a contract in Commodore that's worth $1 million against the cap. He'll be an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season, but he gives Tampa Bay some much-needed depth on defense between now and April. The seventh-round pick isn't much to give up for that help, although knowing the Red Wings, they'll probably turn it into the next Henrik Zetterberg.
