2012 Beanpot: BC, BU, Harvard, Northeastern Battle For Boston Hockey Supremacy

The 2012 Beanpot kicks off on Monday evening with first round matchups at TD Garden. Boston College and Northeastern battle in a rematch of last year's final at 7:30 p.m., while Harvard and Boston University face off at 5 p.m.

Feb 6, 2012 - The 2012 Beanpot tournament kicks off Monday night in Boston, as the Boston College Eagles look to earn city bragging rights for the second straight year. The Eagles defeated the Northeastern Huskies in the 2011 Beanpot Final by an overtime score of 7-6, and the teams will battle in a first-round rematch at 7:30 p.m. Monday night at TD Garden.

The Eagles earned their 16th Beanpot title in 2011, and they enter the 2012 tournament with a 16-10-1 record on their season, good for third in Hockey East. They're ranked fifth in the nation by Monday's USCHO.com Poll. The Huskies picked up one vote in that poll, but they sit in a mediocre sixth position in Hockey East entering Monday's game with an overall record of 11-11-3.

BC has defeated Northeastern three times already this current season, but for the Huskies, a first-round win over the Eagles in the Beanpot would erase those memories quite easily.

Before that rematch, we'll be treated with a first round matchup between the Harvard Crimson and Boston University Terriers at 5 p.m. Monday. The Crimson enter this 60th Beanpot looking for their 11th title, while the Terriers hope to add to their impressive Beanpot resume with a 30th title. BU is the top program in the nation according to this week's poll, and they sit atop Hockey East with a 16-8-1 overall record.

The Crimson picked up four votes in this week's USCHO.com Poll, but they're ranked just fourth in ECAC Hockey with a 6-4-7 conference record. Overall, Harvard's played just five out-of-conference games this season, and they enter the tournament on a six-game unbeaten streak.
