The New York Rangers dropped their second straight game on Thursday, while the Florida Panthers were blanked.

A packed Thursday night of action in the NHL involved 24 teams, but none took bigger losses than the New York Rangers and Florida Panthers.

The Rangers, still ahead of the pack in the Eastern Conference, took their second straight loss on Thursday, falling 4-1 to the Ottawa Senators. Nick Foligno and Jason Spezza scored in the Senators' victory.

Southeast Division leader Florida came into the night with a chance to prove itself against the powerful Philadelphia Flyers. That didn't happen: Philly drubbed the Panthers 5-0, with Scott Hartnell and Jaromir Jagr both netting goals.

Fortunately for the Panthers, Vancouver kept the Winnipeg Jets at bay with a 3-2 win. The Canucks' victory means the Panthers are still two points ahead of both Winnipeg and the Washington Capitals.

The New Jersey Devils used three third period goals to defeat the New York Islanders 5-1. Ilya Kovalchuk had a hat trick in the victory.

The St. Louis Blues had little trouble with the Anaheim Ducks, scoring two goals in the third period for a 3-1 win.

The Nashville Predators got two goals in the first period and cruised to a 4-2 win over the Colorado Avalanche.

Dallas got a 4-3 shootout win over the San Jose Sharks in part thanks to Kari Lehtonen. Lehtonen had 45 saves for the Stars.

In a battle of two Canadian cellar-dwellers, the Montreal Canadiens got a 5-3 win over the Edmonton Oilers.

Despite losing a two-goal lead in the third period, the Minnesota Wild got a 3-2 shootout win over the Phoenix Coyotes.
